Education

Job
Overview:
The
Health
Assistant
supports
the
health,
safety,
and
well-being
of
students
and
staff
by
providing
health
services
within
the
school
setting.
The
position
assists
with
the
assessment
and
care
of
student
health
needs,
administration
of
medications
and
treatments,
maintenance
of
health
records,
response
to
illness
and
injury,
implementation
of
student
health
plans,
and
communication
with
parents/guardians
and
school
personnel.
The
Health
Assistant
works
collaboratively
with
administrators,
staff,
families,
healthcare
providers,
and
other
appropriate
professionals
to
help
ensure
that
students'
health
needs
are
appropriately
addressed
and
that
students
are
able
to
participate
safely
and
successfully
in
the
educational
environment.
Key
Responsibilities:
Student
Health
Services
1.
Provide
appropriate
care
to
students
who
become
ill
or
injured
during
the
school
day.
2.
Provide
first
aid
and
emergency
care
as
appropriate.
3.
Contact
parents/guardians
regarding
student
illness,
injury,
health
concerns,
or
other
circumstances
as
appropriate.
4.
Assist
in
responding
to
medical
emergencies
and
activate
emergency
medical
services
when
necessary.
5.
Support
students
with
chronic
or
significant
health
conditions,
including
diabetes,
asthma,
seizure
disorders,
severe
allergies,
and
other
identified
health
needs.
6.
Administer
or
assist
with
the
administration
of
prescription
and
nonprescription
medications
in
accordance
with
Nebraska
law,
district
policy,
physician/provider
orders,
parent/guardian
authorization,
and
established
procedures.
7.
Maintain
accurate
medication
administration
records
while
also
ensuring
medications
are
appropriately
stored,
secured,
and
accessible
when
needed.
8.
Monitor
medication
supplies
and
communicate
with
parents/guardians
when
additional
medication,
documentation,
or
authorization
is
needed.
9.
Follow
district
procedures
for
emergency
medications,
including
epinephrine
and
other
emergency
medications
when
applicable.
Student
Health
Plans
1.
Assist
in
developing,
maintaining,
and
implementing
individualized
student
health
plans
and
emergency
action
plans
as
appropriate.
2.
Communicate
necessary
health
information
to
appropriate
staff
while
maintaining
student
confidentiality.
3.
Assist
staff
in
understanding
appropriate
responses
to
student-specific
medical
conditions
and
emergencies.

Health
Records
and
Compliance
1.
Maintain
accurate,

and

student
health

health
information
and
documentation
submitted
by
parents/guardians.

Assist
the
district
in
monitoring
compliance
with
applicable
student
health
requirements,
including
immunization
and
physical
examination
requirements.
4.
Maintain
records
of
student
health
office
visits,
injuries,
medications,
treatments,
screenings,
and
other
health-related
services.
5.
Prepare
reports
and
documentation
as
requested
by
district
administration
and
as
required
by
applicable
law.
6.
Maintain
confidentiality
of
student
health
and
educational
information
in
accordance
with
FERPA,
district
policy,
and
other
applicable
requirements.
Health
Screenings
and
Prevention
1.
Coordinate,
conduct,
or
assist
with
student
health
screenings
as
required
or
appropriate.
2.
Assist
with
vision,
hearing,
dental,
or
other
screenings
in
accordance
with
district
procedures
and
Nebraska
requirements.
3.
Communicate
screening
results
and
recommended
follow-up
to
parents/guardians
when
appropriate.
4.
Promote
practices
that
support
student
wellness,
disease
prevention,
and
healthy
school
environments.
5.
Assist
district
and
building
administrators
with
communicable
disease
procedures
and
student
health-related

Office
Operations
1.
