Full-Time Position (1.0 FTE)

Position Summary: Provides support in the health room. Responsibilities include maintaining student health records, including immunizations; providing basic first aid to students; assisting with screenings; and completing clerical tasks related to health needs as directed by the school nurse department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge of:

  • General first aid
  • Clerical practices and procedures

Ability to:

  • Operate word processing equipment and various software programs.
  • Set priorities and organize activities.
  • Screen and treat minor student illness and injuries.
  • Evaluate need for medical attention by trained personnel.
  • Administer medication as directed.
  • Set up and maintain an accurate filing system.
  • Assist nurses in screening procedures.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:

  • High school diploma.
  • One year experience in the medical field providing direct service to clients.
  • Preferred: completion or training towards Certified Nurse Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician.

COMPENSATION: This is a permanent, full-time 9-month position, working 37.5 hours per week, with a starting salary of $28.57 per hour. We offer an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, and paid time off. This position is represented by the Juneau Education Support Staff (JESS) bargaining agreement.

Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a criminal background check.
