The Neenah Joint School District is accepting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Health Assistant.
Assist school nursing personnel with selected activities and duties which constitute an integral part of the school health-related program. These are duties which can be safely assigned to an Educational Assistant; the health assistant does not serve as a registered nurse substitute or as a replacement for other certified or licensed health personnel. The Health Assistant shall be under the direct supervision of the building principal and the school nurse. In addition, assists with general school clerical duties when not occupied with regular health assistant activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked health office and first aid stations
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in accordance with district procedures
- Record health-related information as directed by school nursing personnel
- Document student health room visits and services provided using Infinite Campus
- Provide basic first aid and emergency care as directed by the school nurse or administrator
- Assist with delegated health procedures in accordance with the scope allowed under the Nursing Practice Act
- Maintain required certifications
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student illness or injury and coordinate medication administration per district policy
- Maintain logs of accidents, incidents, and health services provided
- Prepare reports and assist with written communications as needed
- Support school nursing personnel with student health management tasks as assigned
- Assist with building or district needs as directed by administration

Qualifications
- Ability to work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and building administrators
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency with basic office technology (computers, word processing, data systems, copiers, etc.)
- Basic math skills
Education and Experience
- High school diploma required
- Previous experience in a school or healthcare setting preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within first six months of hire
- LPN license preferred, but not required
- Completion of Educational Assistant coursework preferred
- Mandatory Reporter Training required
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to move freely throughout the building and school grounds, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Ability to respond promptly to medical emergencies across school grounds
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
- Frequent movement within the health office to assist students, meet with parents/guardians, and administer medications
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification and physically perform CPR and other life-saving procedures as required
Work Environment and Exposure
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing job duties
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
- Occasional interaction with students who may be aggressive or combative
