Head Varsity Golf Coach

Position Overview

The Head Varsity Golf Coach is responsible for leading, planning, and coordinating all aspects of the boys and/or girls golf program at Horace Mann High School. This includes athlete development, program culture, practice execution, match preparation, communication, and community engagement. The coach will promote academic success, sportsmanship, leadership, and positive student experiences in alignment with the mission and values of the School District of North Fond du Lac.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Culture

• Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and competitive program culture grounded in Oriole Nation values.

• Promote sportsmanship, character development, accountability, and "Above Average" standards on and off the course.

• Lead the program with a coaching philosophy rooted in growth mindset, integrity, and student-athlete development.

Athlete Development

• Develop progressive skill development plans for all levels (Varsity and JV, if applicable).

• Teach and reinforce fundamentals such as swing mechanics, short game, course management, rules knowledge, and mental approach.

• Provide meaningful feedback to student-athletes and support them in achieving individual and team goals.

• Promote safe training habits, conditioning, and injury prevention.

Team & Staff Management

• Assist with recruitment and supervision of assistant coaches (if applicable).

• Promote collaboration and consistency throughout the program.

• Conduct pre-season, in-season, and post-season meetings with athletes and families as needed.

Program Operations

• Plan and organize daily practice plans and seasonal training schedules.

• Prepare lineups, coordinate meet-day logistics, and manage competition strategy.

• Handle equipment needs, uniform orders, inventory management, and facility usage in coordination with the Activities Director.

• Assist with arrangements related to transportation, facilities, and special events when needed.

Communication & Relationships

• Maintain consistent and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, staff, and school administration.

• Promote the golf program in the school and community to support participation and growth.

• Build positive relationships with conference schools, host sites, officials, and other stakeholders.

Compliance & Professionalism

• Adhere to all school district, conference, and WIAA policies, procedures, and rules.

• Maintain eligibility expectations and ensure equitable participation.

• Complete required certifications, trainings, and paperwork in a timely manner.

Seasonal Expectations

• Attend all practices, competitions, meetings, and program events throughout the season.

• Complete required coach evaluations and attend end-of-season meetings with the Activities Director.

• Oversee or support off-season development opportunities including summer contact days, camps, or open golf opportunities (within WIAA guidelines).
