Head Start Bus Monitor

Green Bay Public Schools Head Start program serves 336 children aged three to five across two district locations: the Head Start Learning Center on Bellevue Street, adjacent to the East River Trail, and Jefferson Head Start, nestled in a well-established neighborhood north of Velp Avenue and west of the Fox River. Each site features eight Head Start classrooms, supported by dedicated staff who assist children and their families through home visits and collaborations with the district's 4K and Early Childhood teams.

Students attend either half-day or full-day programs, Monday through Thursday. Despite being spread across two sites, Head Start operates as a unified program, led by the principals of both buildings. Classroom instruction is guided by the Creative Curriculum and assessed using Teaching Strategies Gold. As a Pyramid Model Implementation site, the program emphasizes fostering social-emotional development alongside academic growth. The overarching mission of Head Start is to enhance school readiness for children from low-income families, nurturing their comprehensive development.

The Head Start Bus monitor rides the bus with students, ensuring they are buckled, taking attendance at both pick up and drop off, ensuring the students are released to an appropriate adult and ensures children's safety at all times on the bus ride.

Ride assigned bus for pick-up and drop-off.

Help children board and exit the bus.

Help children with harnesses and check to see they are safely harnessed before the bus departs.

Complete pre and post trip vehicle checks to ensure that there are no safety hazards and that no child is left on the bus.

Follow child pick-up and release procedures set by the Head Start Program.

Walk children to and from classrooms as assigned.

Help with Emergency Evacuation procedures.

Respond to Emergencies as directed by procedures.

Ensure buses are equipped with safety equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kit, seat belt cutter) and signs are posted indicating their location.

Complete required paperwork such as daily attendance and bus behavior reports.

Report to work on time and follow call in procedure when absent.

Maintain the ability to monitor and control student behavior on the bus.

Maintains up-to-date records including a substitute folder.

Maintain effective working relationships with other employees and parent(s)/guardian(s).

Participate in all required training at both a Head Start and District level.

To meet Head Start Performance Standard of the required 15 hours of additional education
