Sparks Group has partnered with a non-profit providing the nation's largest network of volunteer business mentors, dedicated to helping entrepreneurs start, grow, and sustain their businesses.  This organization is seeking a Head of Field Operations to join their team.   If you have 10+ years of progressively responsible field, network, program, or operations leadership, including 5+ years leading managers or senior volunteer leaders.

Essential Functions:

Field Strategy & Network Leadership
  • As a key member of the mission delivery leadership team, actively contributes to field organizational strategic planning by managing, analyzing, and informing field strategy.
  • Collaborate on and execute the national field strategy, operating model, annual priorities, budget, and performance framework.
  • Lead Regional Vice Presidents and establish clear expectations for district, chapter, and volunteer leadership performance.
  • Assess field capacity, chapter health, leadership succession, geographic coverage, and structural needs; recommend interventions and organizational changes.
  • Develop and implement annual field leadership development and succession plans, including identification of leadership needs, readiness gaps, and potential successors.
  • Coordinate annual field budget allocations and communicate requirements, timelines, and available resources to field leadership.
  • Manage field resources within financial policies and budget parameters established by the Finance and Compliance teams.
Service Delivery, Quality & Performance
  • Hold the field network accountable for timely, consistent, high-quality mentoring, educational programs, client intake, and other  services.
  • Oversee mentor-quality, volunteer-capability, certification, service-adoption, and continuous improvement systems.
  • Use service, volunteer, chapter, client-feedback, and business-outcome data to identify risks, gaps, and improvement priorities.
  • Responsible for overseeing and delivering major field training and education – including in-person, remote, and asynchronous opportunities.

  • Partner with Regional and District leaders to address operational challenges, volunteer concerns, and leadership transitions.
  • Monitor Field resource needs and recommend allocation adjustments based on operational performance, capacity, and service delivery needs.
Enterprise Leadership & Risk
  • Partner with other executive team and functional leaders to enable the field to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Partner with  teams to plan, communicate, and implement initiatives affecting field operations.
  • Coordinate consistent implementation of policies, programs, and tools across the field.
  • Collaborate as a review committee member on escalated field investigations, corrective- action decisions, and sensitive volunteer or chapter matters within established decision rights, consulting with Compliance on applicable policies and processes.
  • Represent field needs in enterprise planning and communicate strategic decisions, expectations, and performance results throughout the network.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve field operations through scalable processes that strengthen consistency, efficiency, quality, compliance, and the volunteer experience.
  • Regular national travel to chapters, districts, regions, meetings, and events; approximately 25% travel anticipated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Personnel Management:
  • Build, lead, coach, and evaluate a high-performing national Field Operations team.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, operating rhythms, development plans, succession pathways, and performance expectations for paid staff and senior volunteer leaders.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Direct reports: Director, Field Operations; Manager, Volunteer Capability & Quality; Director, Service Delivery & Performance; Regional Vice Presidents.
  • Interview candidates and make sound hiring or engagement recommendations and decisions within delegated authority.
  • Assign work, establish procedures and standards, monitor performance, coach development, and complete formal evaluations.
  • Address performance or conduct concerns and make promotion, discipline, or separation recommendations or decisions within policy and delegated authority.

 Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, organizational leadership, public administration, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

 

 

Experience:
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible field, network, program, or operations leadership, including 5+ years leading managers or senior volunteer leaders.
  • Demonstrated success leading a large decentralized, chapter-based, membership, franchise, or volunteer-powered service network.
  • Experience managing performance, organizational change, complex escalations, budgets, and cross-functional implementation.

This job is Fully Remote.

Pay Range: Salary $175,000.00 to $185,000.00
