CHAMBERSBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description JOB TITLE: Head Custodian REPORTS TO: Custodial Supervisor CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt ADOPTED by CASD BOARD OF DIRECTORS: ____ REVISION ADOPTED by CASD BOARD OF DIRECTORS: SUMMARY OF PURPOSE The Head Custodian will oversee the daily operations of cleaning and maintenance services within their assigned facility. This position is responsible for supervising a team of custodial staff, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Head Custodian will manage cleaning schedules, conduct regular inspections, and provide support for special events and facility needs. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or Equivalent Solid background in janitorial work, with expertise in cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, materials, and proper handling. Ability to supervise and lead a team of custodians effectively. Strong organizational skills for managing schedules, tasks, and inventory. Ability to handle personnel issues, including training, performance evaluations, and conflict resolution. High level of thoroughness in cleaning tasks to ensure facilities are well-maintained and hygienic. Clear communication skills for interacting with staff, management, and others. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety protocols. Ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently allocate resources. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervise, train, and evaluate custodial staff, ensuring performance and adherence to safety protocols. Coordinate and perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and waste disposal across all areas of the facility. Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment, order replacements, and ensure proper usage and storage. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as minor repairs to doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, and lighting. Oversee the preparation and cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas. Ensure the proper setup and breakdown of spaces for special events, including meetings, conferences, and school functions. Monitor and enforce safety standards, including proper use of chemicals and equipment to ensure a hazard-free environment. Assist with snow removal, exterior maintenance, and other seasonal facility needs. Conduct regular inspections to identify areas needing attention and address issues promptly. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Keep accurate records of staff hours, work orders, and maintenance logs. Respond to emergency maintenance requests, such as spills or facility damage, in a timely manner. Collaborate with other departments to schedule cleaning during school breaks, special events, or building renovations. Respond to any after-hours calls, including security alarms and fire safety alerts, should they arise. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Full time position; 8.0 hours per day, working 248 days per year, following the Non-Bargaining Support Staff Agreement work calendar. Compensation and benefits as per the Non-Bargaining Support Staff Agreement between the Chambersburg Area Non-Bargaining Support Staff and the Chambersburg Area School District. EVALUATION Performance of the Head Custodian will be evaluated annually by the Custodial Supervisor in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations of support employees.
