    Head Varsity Coach

    • Preferred Valid NC Teaching Licensure
    • Serve as liaison between the coaching staff and AD.
    • Has a thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NCHSAA, DCS, and Conference as they pertain to his/her sport, including verifying the eligibility of all staff members and student-athletes. Will provide a final roster to the AD. This includes following all DCS School Board Policies.
    • Understands the proper administrative chain of command and refers all requests or grievances through the proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
    • Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the staff.
    • Delegates specific duties, supervises the implementation, and evaluates all assistants at the end of the season.
    • Maintains discipline, mediates grievances, and works to increase morale.
    • Assists the AD in scheduling and submitting transportation requests through Travel Tracker.
    • Assists in the necessary preparation for scheduled home contests or practices and adheres to facility usage times.
    • Communicates facility needs/repairs to the AD.
    • Provides proper safeguards, including inspection, of all equipment.
    • Monitors the grades and conduct of his/her student-athletes.
    • Provides supervision, guidance, and safeguards for each student-athlete by his/her presence at all practices, and contests, while traveling, and when returning from off-campus events.
    • Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
    • Determines discipline and procedures of due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contacts parents when a student-athlete is suspended, dropped, or becomes ineligible.
    • Participates in the budgeting process with the AD by submitting needs for the next season.
    • Is accountable for all equipment in his/her program and submits notification to the AD for any equipment lost, damaged, or not returned.
    • Arranges for issuing, collecting, securing, reconditioning, and inventory of all equipment.
    • Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks and stores all equipment before leaving campus. Supervises locker room area before and after practice.
    • Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property in its care and proper use.
    • Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
    • Responsible for reporting scores to required outlets set forth by the NCHSAA. This duty may be delegated by the head coach.
    • Guarantees that all district equipment including buses is used for official school business only and is operated safely.
    • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the AD or Principal.
