The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing kitchen staff and ensuring the quality of food items. Their duties include hiring and training staff to cook their dishes, expediting orders to maintain a steady flow of dishes and creating dishes to add to the menu.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Control and direct the food preparation process and any other relative activities
- Construct menus with new or existing culinary creations ensuring the variety and quality of the servings
- Approve and “polish” dishes before they reach the customer
- Plan orders of equipment or ingredients according to identified shortages
- Arrange for repairs when necessary
- Remedy any problems or defects
- Manages the ordering and inventory in all related kitchen items
- Be fully in charge of hiring, managing and training kitchen staff
- Oversee the work of all kitchen staff
- Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between all team members
- Greet all guests in a friendly and welcoming manner
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory and sanitation policies
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Education and Experience
- Degree in Culinary science or related
- Proven experience as Head Chef
- Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management
- Ability in dividing responsibilities and monitoring progress
- Outstanding communication and leadership skills
- Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes
- Credentials in health and safety training
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions.
- Good understanding of useful computer programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS - preferably TOAST)
- Enjoys working with the public to provide exceptional customer service
- Adaptable to working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lead a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent physical condition and stamina
- Must have command of the English language
