Job Title: Hardware Test Engineer - Electronics Verification & Validation

Job Description

The Hardware Test Engineer leads verification and validation activities for embedded computing and electronic hardware products. This role defines test strategies, develops comprehensive qualification plans, and validates hardware designs ranging from integrated computer systems to custom circuit boards. The engineer plays a key role in establishing and improving testing processes as the organization expands its internally developed hardware portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute detailed verification and validation plans for electronic hardware products.
  • Lead hardware qualification testing, including environmental, functional, reliability, and stress testing for embedded computing and circuit board designs.
  • Evaluate new electronic designs and determine appropriate test methodologies, tools, and procedures.
  • Support board-level testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Define component-level and system-level qualification requirements to ensure robust performance and compliance.
  • Generate clear and accurate test reports, documenting results, observations, and recommendations for engineering stakeholders.
  • Communicate test findings and technical insights to cross-functional engineering teams and contribute to design reviews.
  • Support compliance and qualification efforts for military and ruggedized electronic applications.
  • Drive testing activities related to EMI/EMC, shock, vibration, power quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Recommend improvements to current testing processes, standards, and documentation to enhance efficiency and quality.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience testing and validating electronic hardware or circuit board designs.
  • Strong understanding of verification, validation, and qualification testing methodologies for electronic systems.
  • Experience developing structured test plans, detailed test procedures, and comprehensive technical reports.
  • Knowledge of board-level troubleshooting techniques and hardware debug methods.
  • Ability to lead testing efforts, coordinate activities, and provide clear technical direction to team members and stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with MIL-STD qualification testing for military-grade or ruggedized electronic systems.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC testing requirements and practices.
  • Experience conducting shock, vibration, environmental, and reliability testing.
  • Experience supporting defense, aerospace, industrial, or ruggedized electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with power quality considerations and military power requirements.

Work Environment

The role focuses on testing embedded computing and electronic hardware, working closely with engineering teams in a lab and development environment. The Hardware Test Engineer regularly uses electronic test equipment and tools to perform board-level and system-level verification, validation, and qualification activities. Work involves planning and executing tests for environmental, functional, reliability, stress, EMI/EMC, shock, vibration, and power quality requirements, particularly for ruggedized and potentially military-grade applications. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukesha, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $90.00/hr.
