Primary Purpose:
The Guest Teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities, instruction, and supervision by
implementing the lesson plans as directed by the absent teacher, Principal, Guest Teacher Concierge, or other
District personnel.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification/Experience/Other:
Minimum 60 + college hours from an accredited college or university recognized by the US
Department of Education
Demonstrated competency in academic subject area(s) with prior teaching experience helpful
Experience working with school age or adult students
Successful completion of Humble ISD online Guest Teacher application
Receipt of three professional references (requested electronically at the time of the application).
o One of your references must include either a current or a former supervisor and
must include an email address for all three references with references matching
your employment experience
Clear background checks and complete fingerprint requirements
Satisfactory completion of a personal interview with a HR representative
Complete all new hire documents and attend new hire on-boarding and training session if offered
employment
Bilingual Guest Teachers must be proficient in both English and Spanish (verbal and written)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of academic subject assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Skill in managing both groups and individual students and provide effective instruction in
accordance with district guidelines, policies, and procedures
Skill in operating audio/visual and computer equipment
Skill in communicating along with interacting effectively with diverse groups, both
verbally and written, utilizing professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy
Ability to work in a classroom environment setting whether indoor or outdoor
Ability to perform duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through,
courtesy, cooperativeness, and work independently with minimum supervision
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion of privileged and sensitive
information and issues involving privacy concerns
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work collaboratively, and
independently to meet deadlines
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of District
personnel, students, and parents

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the absent teacher or designated
staff and any special duties assigned (bus duty, hall duty, lunch/recess duty, etc.)
- Follow lesson plans and daily responsibilities of the absent employee to ensure continuity for
student learning, routines, and rotations.
- Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in assigned subject area(s).
- Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and
technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned, and
present subject matter according to the lesson plans.
- Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curriculum for students as needed or noted in lesson
plans.
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods
according to district requirements where needed.
- May need to cover other classes during conference period.
Student Growth and Development
- Be a positive role model for students; support mission of campus and school district.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, responsible and in compliance with the Professional
Code of Ethics.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Submit attendance reports in a timely manner.
- Implement a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical,
social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the lesson plans, Student Code of Conduct, and
student handbook.
- Supervise students at all times.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and
facilities.
- Maintain a clean and orderly classroom and follow the classroom and school procedures as
directed by the school.
- Leave notes or complete substitute teacher report form/survey at the end of the teaching day and
provided any special situations encountered.
Professional Growth and Development
- Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in the assigned content area,
instructional strategies and the teaching and learning process.
- Participate in district and campus professional development if/when applicable and offered.
- Participate in required district meetings, cluster meetings and/or faculty/staff meetings.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Report promptly any accidents, incidents or concerns.
- Keeps informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for
classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other required
documents.

Able to move stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment
Strength and mobility needed to assist students which may include lifting or intervening with
challenging behaviors situations
Able to manage behavior through appropriate and safe techniques as per Board and District policy,
regulations, and procedures
Must be able to access and navigate areas of the school associated with teaching assignment selected
and assigned
Work primarily inside, may work outside
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours with extended hours or non-business hours may be required
to lessen impact to campus operations-flexibility with schedule assignment changes
Frequent contact with parents, community, and/or other district/campus employees
Attendance and punctuality per the assigned work schedule are essential functions of the job
