Description

Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Group Sales Manager to join our team. This position is responsible for driving group room revenue, meeting and event business, and overall hotel profitability through strategic sales efforts and exceptional client relationship management.

This position also sells and coordinates meeting space, catering, and food & beverage functions when applicable. While catering and F&B business are important components of the guest experience and overall hotel revenue strategy, performance incentives and bonus metrics are primarily tied to rooms and group revenue production.

The Group Sales Manager partners with hotel leadership and operational departments to generate new business, grow existing accounts, and deliver exceptional guest experiences. This role serves as the primary contact for group clients throughout the sales process, from prospecting and contract execution through turnover to operations, ensuring a seamless experience and strong client satisfaction.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures the sales process generates maximum profitability by qualifying business opportunities, implementing sales and marketing strategies, analyzing market trends, and tracking results.
  • Develops and executes account strategies aligned with hotel revenue goals and overall business objectives.
  • Proactively solicits new business through prospecting, networking, cold calling, site visits, community involvement, and relationship-building activities.
  • Maintains and grows relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities for additional revenue and repeat business.
  • Develops and implements sales initiatives, strategies, and programs to capture key market segments and target demographics.
  • Maintains awareness of market conditions, competitor activity, economic trends, supply and demand, and changing customer needs.
  • Champions the hotel brand and actively promotes awareness within the local community and business marketplace.
  • Meets or exceeds established sales goals and production targets.
  • Utilizes market intelligence, rate strategies, and revenue management principles to secure business that maximizes hotel profitability.
  • Develops and maintains accurate sales forecasts, account production reports, and pipeline management activities.
  • Utilizes all required sales systems and CRM platforms to accurately document activities, opportunities, contracts, and client communications.
  • Maintains the integrity and accuracy of all sales data and reporting.
  • Solicits, negotiates, and contracts group room blocks, meetings, and events that support overall hotel revenue objectives.
  • Sells and coordinates meeting space, catering services, and food & beverage functions when applicable.
  • Develops comprehensive group agreements and event details prior to turnover to operations and/or catering personnel.
  • Collaborates with Food & Beverage and Operations teams to ensure successful execution of contracted events.
  • Assists with identifying opportunities to increase meeting, catering, and ancillary revenue while maintaining alignment with the property's overall sales strategy.
  • Ensures seamless communication of client needs, expectations, and event requirements to operational departments.
  • Maintains exceptional client relationships through responsive communication and proactive account management.
  • Ensures client needs, concerns, requests, and feedback are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Conducts follow-up calls, site visits, post-event reviews, and customer appreciation activities to encourage repeat business and referrals.
  • Creates a positive customer experience consistent with brand standards and ownership expectations.
  • Maintains a high level of guest and client satisfaction throughout the sales cycle.
  • Partners effectively with hotel management and department leaders to support overall business goals.
  • Attends and participates in all required property, sales, and leadership meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with internal teams to ensure alignment between sales efforts and operational execution.
  • Completes all required company and brand training programs.
  • Supports other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Experience:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of two (2) years of hotel sales experience or an equivalent combination of education and sales experience.
  • Experience selling corporate, group, negotiated, or transient hotel business preferred.
  • Experience with meeting, event, catering, or banquet sales strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales goals and building long-term client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel operations, sales processes, and revenue management principles.
  • National or major-brand hotel experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyze reports, understand financial performance metrics, and contribute to annual budgeting processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Schedule flexibility as business needs require.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  • Exposed to ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment found in a typical office environment; quiet to moderate noise level

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit or stand at a desk or other areas of the property throughout the day based on business needs
  • Must have the ability to move around freely throughout the property and office, and necessity varies from day to day
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel in a timely manner
  • Must be able to lift up to 25-30 lbs. occasionally
  • Requires grasping, writing, sitting or standing, moving about freely, repetitive motions, bending, and communicating effectively

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $65,000-75,000/year + commission/bonus eligibility. Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position; including experience, skills, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
