Group Leader Assistant

These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Mission and Policies of the YMCA of the East Bay. Group Leader Assistants are responsible for supporting the daily operations of the site by providing high quality and responsive care to children and families in an inclusive setting.  The position support meaningful, culturally relevant educational and recreational activities and positive relationships grounded in Y values. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Support active supervision of students at all times to promote physical and emotional safety. 
2. Assist with developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant activities, curriculum, supplies and equipment. 
3. Work cooperatively with staff to support program quality, safety, cleanliness and accident prevention. 
4. Support individual growth, homework help and academic skill building while recognizing each child’s needs. 
5. Maintain accurate attendance and required program records.
6. Support children’s health and well-being; provide first aid when necessary and promptly report incidents or injuries.
7. Use consistent, age-appropriate positive behavior guidelines and document notable situations according to policy. 
8. Build and maintain positive communication—both verbal and non-verbal—with students, families, school personnel, district partners and Y staff. 
9. Follow Y policies and applicable community partner policy requirements for the assigned site at all times. 
10. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, program activities and special events. 
11. Other duties as assigned.
