Group Fitness Instructor

Silver Creek Valley Country Club, located in San Jose, CA, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Group Fitness Instructor! We're looking for an energetic instructor with a passion for health and fitness who can teach a variety of class formats and create a welcoming, motivating experience for participants of all fitness levels.

Current Class Opportunities:

Days and Time

• Saturday at 9:00 AM
• Monday at 9:00 AM
• Wednesday or Thursday Evenings

• HIIT
• Strength Circuits

The ideal candidate:

• Holds a current Group Fitness certification
• Has previous group fitness teaching experience
• Can teach a variety of class styles
• Brings great energy and motivation to every class
• Has excellent communication skills
• Is dependable, professional, and a team player

Pay Range: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour (Depending on Experience). Rate based on experience and class format.

General Purpose:

Develops and assists members with aerobic and strength training programs. Assists in the safe instruction of exercise equipment.

Essential Duties:

• Guides members through initial and progressive training in the areas of flexibility, aerobic conditioning and strength training.
• Instructs fitness and aerobic classes each week.
• Teaches proper stretching, strengthening and aerobic exercise.
• Insures proper, up-to-date and safe procedures are used in the teaching of all classes.
• Participates in continuing education seminars and workshops.
• Inspects exercise equipment and areas for cleanliness and safety. Performs light custodial duties such as wipes down equipment, monitors cleanliness in pool area, spa, fitness center, and locker-rooms.
• Choreographs exercise sequences and aerobic routines for aerobic dance and exercise classes. Classes may be either indoor, controlled exercise settings, or indoor/outdoor aquatic settings.
• Monitors classes in progress, providing constructive assistance.
• Enforces all rules and regulations in a polite and professional manner.
• Represents the community association's fitness center at meetings, seminars, and events with the fitness director, or in the absence of the fitness director.
• Assists the fitness director with special events, tournaments, recognition programs, and any outdoor sports related activities.
• Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education/Experience:

Associate's degree (AA) in Physical Education or related field; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:

Frequently uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks, hears, stands and walks, climbs or balances; stoops, and kneels. Occasionally sits, crouches, or crawls; tastes or smells. Occasionally lifts up to 45 pounds.

Environment/Noise:

Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.

Certificates/Licenses:

National Certificate for Aerobic Instruction. AED, CPR and First Aid

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:

• Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English).
• Experience and exposure with wide variety of exercise equipment, instructional techniques, injury prevention, fitness/wellness counseling, and developing/interpreting personalized fitness/wellness regimens.
