    POSITION TITLE: GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR - Evenings & Weekends

    DIVISION: MONON COMMUNITY CENTER

    REPORTS TO: FITNESS PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

    FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT - $27.00

    Purpose of Position:

    The purpose of the Group Fitness Instructor position is to provide a safe and effective group exercise environment for guests through supervision, education and a focus on establishing a safe and effective exercise plan to each user. The Group Fitness Instructor provides guests with a structured class, keeps accurate attendance records for Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation and utilizes the highest quality of customer service.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

    • Enthusiastically greets class participants and maintains a positive attitude at all times when working with members.
    • Structures classes to meet current exercise recommendations based on National Standards, as well as participants' fitness and wellness goals.
    • Demonstrates correct use of all group exercise equipment.
    • Behaves as a role model by leading and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
    • Maintain current certifications and seek opportunities to expand their knowledge base for personal and professional growth.
    • Encourage members to take advantage of other MCC services and programs.
    • Enforces applicable rules and regulations with program participants and facility users.
    • Responds to public inquiries, suggestions and complaints. Informs management as necessary.
    • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
    • Reliable attendance and timeliness to scheduled shifts.
    • Attends meetings as required.
    • Must adhere to CCPR dress code standards.
    • Performs other related work as required.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

    • Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
    • Ability to assess people and varying situations, and act accordingly.
    • Ability to positively adhere to and enforce Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation policy and procedures; implement emergency plans.
    • Ability to positively promote the image of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, guests and the general public.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, accurately, loudly, and quickly.
    • Physical requirements include: lifting, kneeling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.

    Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

    • Must hold nationally recognized certification from ACSM, ACE, AFAA or NETA. Other certifying bodies may be considered.
    • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire, prior to instructing.
    • Minimum 18 years of age.
