Job Description: Our client is seeking a Groundwater Treatment System Operator to support operation and maintenance of a groundwater extraction and treatment system (GWETS) and associated landfill remediation systems in Sidney New York. Job Description:

• Our client is seeking a Groundwater Treatment System Operator to support operation and maintenance of a groundwater extraction and treatment system (GWETS) and associated landfill remediation systems in Sidney New York.
• This role includes daily system operation, environmental monitoring, and regulatory compliance activities for a complex Superfund remediation site.

 
Key Responsibilities:
•Operate and monitor the groundwater extraction system, including:
o Collection trench and associated pumps
o Recovery wells
o Assessing and adjusting system setpoints –pumping and flow control
•Operate the groundwater treatment plant, including:
o Chemical precipitation and clarification systems
o Air stripper for VOC removal
o Granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment
o Filtration and solids handling systems
•Perform system inspections, startup/shutdown procedures, and basic troubleshooting of pumps, instrumentation, and treatment equipment.
•Conduct routine compliance monitoring and sampling.
•Complete and maintain field documentation, including:
o Logbooks, inspection forms and sampling records to support quarterly and annual regulatory reporting.
•Conduct landfill inspections and maintenance, including:
o Cap condition, erosion, and settlement
o Stormwater controls and drainage features
o Monitoring wells, gas vents, and site infrastructure
•Support waste handling activities, including management of treatment waste and disposal.
•Follow all health and safety requirements, including:
o HAZWOPER protocols
o Confined space and LOTO procedures
o Site-specific Health and Safety plans (HASP)
•Site maintenance including mowing and snow removal
 
Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma (or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience in water/wastewater or groundwater treatment systems OR Associate degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience operating physical/chemical treatment systems
• Familiarity with multi-stage treatment processes such as air stripping, GAC, clarification, and chemical dosing
• Experience with environmental sampling and groundwater monitoring
• Knowledge of SPDES/NPDES permit compliance and discharge monitoring requirements
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and maintenance aptitude/experience
• Experience maintaining or operating SCADA or automated control systems
• HAZWOPER 40-hour certification (current or prior) is preferred
• Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Ability to work outdoors and lift up to 50 lbs
