GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The ACS groundskeeper is responsible for ensuring the overall cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the school grounds. This includes maintaining lawns, gardens, athletic fields, and other outdoor areas. The groundskeeper plays a crucial role in creating a positive and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Job Functions:

• Landscaping Maintenance:

• Mow lawns, trim edges, and maintain overall lawn health.

• Prune trees and shrubs as needed.

• Plant flowers, shrubs, and other greenery to enhance the appearance of the grounds.

• Weed control in flower beds and other landscaped areas.

• Athletic Field Maintenance:

• Maintain sports fields, ensuring proper turf conditions.

• Mark and prepare fields for various sports activities.

• Regularly inspect and repair sports equipment, such as goalposts and nets.

• Grounds Cleaning and Waste Management:

• Collect and dispose of litter and debris.

• Empty trash receptacles throughout the school grounds.

• Monitor and maintain cleanliness in outdoor common areas.

• Snow and Ice Removal:

• Clear snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, and other pathways to ensure safety during winter weather.

• Equipment Maintenance:

• Maintain and perform minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.

• Keep equipment storage areas organized and tidy.

• Collaboration:

• Coordinate with other school staff to schedule maintenance activities without disrupting the schools daily operations.

• Communicate with school administrators regarding any special events or activities that may impact grounds maintenance.

• Safety Compliance:

• Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines when operating equipment and performing tasks.

• Report any safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate authorities

• Emergency Response:

• Respond promptly (24/7) to emergency maintenance situations and provide necessary support during unforeseen events or disasters.

Additional Job Functions:

• May help secure buildings on an as-needed basis.
• May lift and/or move furniture, equipment, and supplies for meetings and special school events.
• ***Other duties assigned by the Director or Asst. Director.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in groundskeeping or landscaping is preferred.
• Knowledge of horticulture, pest control, and basic landscaping principles.
• Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment.
• Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Physical Requirements:

• Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment.
• Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
• Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work.

Data Conception:

• Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Language Ability:

• Requires the ability to read simple forms.
• Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using the prescribed format.

Intelligence:

• Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Also, D.D.C Controls and computer experience.

Verbal Aptitude:

• Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.

Numerical Aptitude:

• Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide, and multiply.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

• Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, with and shape.

Motor Coordination:

• Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using tools.

Manual Dexterity:

• Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, such as maintenance equipment.
• Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination:

• Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament:

• Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
• Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.
