About the New Mexico Military Institute:

The New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a state-supported, co-educational institution offering college preparatory education at the high school and junior college levels. With a student body of up to 1,000 cadets, NMMI provides comprehensive academic experience complemented by Junior and Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs. The high school curriculum is fully accredited, preparing students for higher education. The junior college program facilitates cadet transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Additionally, NMMI houses the Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA) for grades 6-8. The IPA delivers a distinctive curriculum that emphasizes immersive, intensive, and hands-on learning in a structured environment.

Position:

Under the supervision of the Grounds Manager, the campus Grounds Technician provides specialized maintenance and is responsible for the safety, aesthetics, and functionality of all outdoor environments. This is a non-exempt, 12-month, full-time position. The hourly rate is $15.00 (approximately $31,200.00 annually). The job description is available upon request.

Tasks:

• Maintain lawns by mowing, trimming, edging, and watering. • Operate power equipment such as mowers, edgers, trimmers, tractors, forklift and light trucks associated with grounds care. • Maintain all equipment that this position is qualified to use. • Assist in campus garbage collection, policing of campus grounds, snow removal, leaf collection, and other items necessary to the appearance of the grounds. • Assist other Physical Plant departments as necessary. • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

• Must adhere to all safety standards and work practices set down by the Physical Plant, including the following: • Wearing protective equipment as required while performing work assignments, such as protective hand and eye equipment while handling chemicals, a back brace while lifting heavy objects, and any other equipment required to perform work in a safe manner. • Inspecting safety equipment daily for deficiencies and proper working order. • Reporting defective equipment to the supervisor for replacement and suspending work activity requiring safety equipment until protective equipment is restored to proper working order.

Qualifications:

Required: • High school diploma. • Valid Driver's License. Preferred: • Associate's degree • Five years of experience in the care and maintenance of grounds.
