Job Summary
The Biology Department at the University of Michigan-Flint is seeking motivated students to join our team as Gross Anatomy Prep Attendants to perform prosections on cadaver specimens utilized by students in certain Gross Anatomy lab courses. These courses include: BIO 510, BIO 511, and BIO 634. The prep attendant will work with lab instructors to assign the regions that are to be dissected each week. Individuals serving in this position will report directly to the Laboratory Supervisor with regard to weekly work schedules, which would be determined upon hire. This position is filled on a per semester basis.
Responsibilities*
Prep attendants are responsible for helping the instructor dissect cadavers, setting up and tearing down models, and maintaining the viability of the cadavers. In addition, all prep attendants are expected to:
Know locations and appropriate usage of all safety equipment
Follow all departmental safety rules
Ensure good housekeeping during the lab by doing the following:
Checking that there are enough quantities of consumable materials
Making sure that there are no sharps in trash cans
Filling paper towels and soap dispensers
Replace scalpel blades and scissors when necessary
Filling cadaver wetting solution bottles
Wiping tables, benchtops, and AV equipment
Ensuring that models, cadavers, and equipment are stored appropriately
Reporting any broken equipment to the appropriate Lab Supervisor
Dissect cadavers when given specific directions by Lab Supervisor or instructor
Maintain cadaver specimen storage
Prepare lab set ups with the instructor
Assist with end of semester cadaver packing
Communicate and schedule lab time with the Lab Supervisor

Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Background Screening
