Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled CNC Grinder Operator to support our manufacturing team in Buffalo Grove, IL. This role is responsible for performing complex machining and grinding operations, as well as supporting the construction, repair, maintenance, and calibration of machine shop tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and instruments. The position reports to the Special Tooling Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations:
  • Inspect workpieces, document measurements, and follow production schedules to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Operate conventional machine shop equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and vertical/horizontal saws
  • Set up and operate CNC grinding machines (Fanuc-controlled preferred)
  • Adjust machine settings such as speeds, feeds, and depth of cut to meet blueprint specifications
  • Verify machined parts meet required tolerances and quality standards
  • Perform machine setups and operate additional CNC equipment as needed
Specialized Responsibilities:
  • Design and build tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures
  • Interpret tooling and fixture requests, convert to sketches, and fabricate components
  • Collaborate with tool designers and provide input on new tooling development
  • Support process improvements and apply new manufacturing technologies
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience in CNC grinding or related machining in a tight-tolerance environment (medical device or mold making preferred)
  • Experience setting up and operating multiple CNC jig grinding machines
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and manufacturing functions
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical instructions
  • Proficient in mathematical concepts including fractions, algebra, ratios, and percentages
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions
  • Ability to train or mentor other team members is a plus
