Description

The Graphic Designer/Marketing Coordinator develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to promote Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) of Somerset County's programs, classes, events, and volunteer opportunities. RCE comprises three departments: Agriculture & Natural Resources (ANR), 4-H Youth Development (4-H), and Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS). This position will support the needs of all three departments. This position is responsible for creating clear, engaging, and accessible public information materials-including brochures, newsletters, flyers, press releases, website content, media events, and social media posts-to inform, attract, and retain participants and volunteers.

Working both independently and collaboratively, the Graphic Designer/ Marketing Coordinator ensures consistent messaging, brand alignment, and effective outreach across digital and traditional communication platforms. The role requires a self-motivated, creative individual with strong graphic design and marketing skills, proficiency in social media management, and the ability to translate program needs into compelling public-facing materials. Works closely with staff, volunteers, community partners, and county agencies to enhance public awareness and support RCE of Somerset County''s mission.

Essential Functions

  • Design and coordinate a marketing plan for Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County.
  • Maintain a strong social media presence for RCE (FB, IG, YouTube, and TikTok, where applicable).
  • Post event content (advertisements, photos/videos during and after events to advertise programs). Post informational material from each department.
  • Providing compelling and on-brand language, including blog posts, social media posts, email communications/newsletters, event and impact submissions to other outlets/newsletters.
  • Website Design and Management: independently design updates, review existing web content, and update accordingly.
  • Photography/Videography - Attend events, programs, and meetings as requested to provide high-quality images of programs to use across multiple projects to further provide an image depicting the work RCE does, assisting with live-streamed content when necessary.
  • Digital asset management on shared folders for easy content access for staff.
  • Press/educational outreach and advertising -Produce press releases when applicable, liaising with press contacts to get outreach materials published. Send programs/events to schools when applicable to increase participation of targeted age groups.
  • Design of RCE branded materials, brand maintenance-including (but not limited to) presentations, flyers, video presentations, assisting with PDF preparation when needed, assisting staff with design-related questions for their projects, adhering to branding best practices.
  • Data analysis/reporting: provide detailed reports of social media, email communication, and website performance based on engagement metrics provided monthly. Provide content-specific analytics reports upon department request.
  • Compile/design year-end impact reports for each department.
  • Maintain and create relationships with Rutgers University and Somerset County Public Info to enhance outreach efforts, find new outreach opportunities, and streamline marketing needs such as website management and printing/design projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field

  • A minimum of three years' experience in graphic design, marketing, and/or communications.

  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent skills in:

  • website design

  • graphic design

  • photo editing

  • professional use of social media

  • designing flyers and other marketing materials

  • Ability to learn and operate specialized software

  • Valid NJ Driver's License

  • Must pass Rutgers Youth Protection training and background check

Preferred

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Knowledge of Cooperative Extension

Salary: $50,000 - $52,000/year

Hours: 35 hours/week
