    JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:
    The Graphic Designer will support the development of visually compelling, professional, accessible, and brand-compliant communications products for the company and federal government customers. This role will create and refine graphics, layouts, visual identities, publications, presentations, marketing collateral, digital content, event materials, infographics, and other communications products that translate complex technical, scientific, and programmatic information into clear and engaging visual formats.

    Graphic Design & Visual Communications
    • Design and produce graphics, illustrations, layouts, infographics, charts, diagrams, icons, and other visual elements for federal communications products.
    • Develop brochures, fact sheets, technical briefs, reports, newsletters, magazines, posters, flyers, banners, exhibits, presentations, social media graphics, web graphics, and other print and digital products.
    • Translate complex technical, scientific, engineering, research, or policy information into clear and visually understandable graphics.
    • Create visual concepts that reinforce key messages, audience needs, and communication objectives.
    • Develop and refine visual hierarchy, typography, page composition, color use, imagery, and layout to improve readability and engagement.
    • Create publication covers, interior layouts, page treatments, pull quotes, callouts, tables, figures, and other publication design elements.
    • Develop templates and reusable graphic assets to support consistent and efficient production.
    • Prepare graphics for use across print, web, social media, presentations, multimedia, and event environments.
    • Support creation of exhibit graphics, signage, banners, handouts, booth materials, and other event collateral.
    • Develop audience-appropriate visual treatments while maintaining consistency with approved messaging and brand standards.
    Branding & Identity Support
    • Apply and maintain company and customer branding standards across communications products.
    • Support development and refinement of brand templates, graphic standards, visual identity elements, and reusable design assets.
    • Ensure consistent use of logos, typography, colors, imagery, spacing, and other brand elements.
    • Review products for compliance with established brand guidelines and customer requirements.
    • Adapt approved visual identities to new products, formats, audiences, and communication channels.
    • Maintain organized libraries of approved logos, templates, photography, illustrations, source files, and other design assets.
    • Coordinate with communications staff and federal customers to resolve branding or visual consistency issues.
    Publications & Layout Support
    • Work collaboratively with writers, editors, and desktop publishers to produce polished publication layouts.
    • Support layout and production of technical reports, research publications, magazines, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, booklets, manuals, and related products.
    • Incorporate approved text, tables, photographs, charts, figures, and illustrations into publication layouts.
    • Ensure graphics and design treatments remain consistent with approved content and do not alter technical meaning.
    • Support multiple review and revision cycles while maintaining design consistency and version control.
    • Perform final visual quality reviews to identify layout, alignment, spacing, image-quality, or formatting issues.
    • Prepare print-ready and web-ready graphic files in accordance with customer requirements.
    Digital, Web & Social Media Graphics
    • Design digital assets for websites, email campaigns, social media, newsletters, digital marketing, and stakeholder outreach.
    • Optimize graphics for appropriate file size, format, resolution, and digital use.
    • Develop graphics that support audience engagement across multiple communication channels.
    • Create visual content for platforms such as social media, websites, digital newsletters, and virtual events.
    • Coordinate with Web Developers to ensure digital graphics are appropriately sized, formatted, and accessible.
    • Support campaign-specific and audience-specific visual treatments while preserving consistent branding.
    Section 508 Accessibility & Usability
    • Design graphics and layouts with Section 508 accessibility considerations incorporated from the outset.
    • Support development of alternative text for images, charts, infographics, diagrams, and other visual elements.
    • Apply appropriate color contrast, typography, visual hierarchy, and non-color-dependent information cues.
    • Coordinate with Section 508 specialists, editors, and content owners to ensure graphics can be interpreted by users with disabilities.
    • Design tables, figures, charts, and infographics in ways that support accessibility and comprehension.
    • Revise graphics and layouts when accessibility reviews identify required changes.
    • Maintain editable source files to support future accessibility remediation or updates.
    Quality Control & File Management
    • Maintain organized source files, working files, approved graphics, final files, and supporting documentation.
    • Follow established naming conventions, version-control practices, and customer file-management requirements.
    • Ensure graphics use appropriate resolution, color mode, file type, dimensions, and production specifications.
    • Review products for accuracy, consistency, technical integrity, branding, accessibility, and overall design quality.
    • Identify design, production, accessibility, or schedule risks and elevate them to the Project Manager or designated lead.
    • Maintain complete source packages to support future revisions, reuse, archiving, and records management.
    • Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring design or production issues and recommending improvements to templates, workflows, and design standards.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE REQUIREMENT:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Media, Fine Arts, Communications, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent experience.
    • 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in graphic design, publication design, visual communications, or related creative services.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Acrobat Pro.
    • Experience designing both print and digital communications products.
    • Experience developing publications, reports, brochures, fact sheets, presentations, infographics, banners, social media graphics, or similar products.
    • Strong understanding of typography, composition, visual hierarchy, color, imagery, and layout.
    • Ability to translate complex technical or scientific information into understandable visual content.
    • Experience preparing production-ready files for print and digital publication.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain quality through multiple review cycles.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with writers, editors, project managers, subject matter experts, and customers.
    • Ability to work independently or under minimal guidance in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to pass a government suitability/background investigation, if required.
    • U.S. Citizenship.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:
    • Direct experience supporting Federal Government communications, technical publications, scientific research, engineering, public health, or mission-driven programs.
    • Experience designing federal research reports, technical briefs, magazines, newsletters, or public-facing communications products.
    • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements and accessible visual design.
    • Experience developing data visualizations, technical diagrams, infographics, or scientific graphics.
    • Experience supporting branding programs and developing reusable templates and visual standards.
    • Familiarity with Federal publication requirements, Government Publishing Office standards, and Federal style or branding guidance.
    • Experience supporting digital marketing, social media, web content, outreach campaigns, or event communications.
    • Experience working in a quality-managed production environment with formal review and approval processes.
    • Experience developing visual assets for Adobe InDesign publications, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, web environments, or digital campaigns..
