Job Description Summary
This position-housed in the Center for Access & Advocacy-reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement & Retention. This position involves a collaborative, student-centered process that identifies and addresses academic, social, and emotional challenges affecting student persistence. The Specialist researches student issues, develops targeted strategies, and assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates appropriate services and interventions.
Characterized by advocacy, effective communication, collaboration, and resource coordination, this role provides timely outreach to students identified through CARE Connections submitted by faculty, staff, and students. By working closely with campus departments and community partners, the Care Specialist ensures that students are connected to the resources they need by promoting support, removing barriers to success, and contributing to improved retention and academic outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree.
Three (3) years related experience.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
Capacity to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
Able to work as part of a team using a student-centered motivational interviewing and solution-focused framework to promote student persistence through to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling, Student Development/Student Affairs, or Social Work.
Familiar with local social services and community resource agencies.
Experience working with at-risk student populations.

Partner closely with colleagues to support students in need, particularly those identified through CARE Connection referrals.
Build and nurture collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners across the campus to holistically address students' personal, academic, and social support needs.
Ensure students have the resources and guidance necessary to succeed.

Provide direct and referral service to students through the development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of programs, resources, and services.

Establish a supportive environment that encourages participation, dissemination of information, networking, coalition building, mentoring, academic achievement, and community service.

Perform a wide range of activities to support at-risk student populations in conjunction with instructional and student development units.

Participate in the annual development, planning, coordination, scheduling and implementation of timelines and activities, ensuring that timelines are achieved and assigned tasks are accomplished.

Develop, implement, and evaluate methods to identify and outreach to target populations, including collaboration with College academic and student services departments.

Evaluate new approaches to implement support and intervention strategies for students during pivotal points of the college experience.

Participate in, attend, and/or promote College-wide activities supporting student success including but not limited to registration, faculty/staff professional development, etc.
Job Duty
Utilize Electronic Records Management Systems to document CARE Connection interventions, student engagement activities as well as outreach/connection/triage/intervention/follow-up interventions.
Job Duty
Analyze information about individuals through interviews, assessments, and records to assess their interests, abilities, and potential barriers to academic success and persistence.
Provide direct services or referrals to campus and community resources as appropriate.
Job Duty
Assist regarding personal and academic concerns by collaborating with students to establish goals and develop an appropriate action plan; educate students about available services including financial aid, disability, counseling, tutoring, and academic advising services.
Apply an outreach/connection/triage/intervention/follow-up framework with students and coordinate referrals to College and community services as needed.
Job Duty
May participate in College committees, councils, and College service activities.
Other related duties as assigned.
