    Position Description:

    This listing is for the hiring of (1) one Graduate Research Fellow to support the Tulane Architecture and Asian Studies Fellow on research initiatives. Working closely with the Fellow, the Research Assistant will gain valuable interdisciplinary experience through both independent work and close collaboration. Research topics include, but are not limited to: global migration, vernacular housing, and urban policy in China, and Chinatowns around the world. Applicants must be proficient in Rhino, Adobe CC, and model-making. An interest in Chinese languages is essential; knowledge of Mandarin and/or Shanghainese is a plus. All interested candidates are all encouraged to apply, regardless of previous working experience.

    Expected Duties:

    Duties will include in-person and Zoom meetings with the Fellow. Depending on the task, work will be completed either independently with periodic check-ins, or under the direct supervision of the Fellow. Weekly responsibilities will change based on project needs and will include, but are not limited to:

    • Web and library information-gathering on the aforementioned topics
    • Model prototyping, building, and documentation
    • Developing composite drawings and diagrams (hand/digital/collage)

    Depending on the Research Assistant's knowledge of Chinese languages, translation may also be part of the duties.
