The Center for New York City Affairs at The New School seeks a highly motivated social sciences graduate student to serve as a part-time quantitative research assistant. Under the guidance of the Center's Director of Economic and Fiscal Policy, the quantitative research assistant is primarily responsible for, among other research and administrative tasks, analyzing Census microdata to highlight New York City labor market and socio-economic trends and how they compare across local, state, and national levels. The position is for 10-25 hours per week and starts as soon as possible. Those who can commit at least a year to this role are strongly encouraged to apply, but a semester-long appointment will be considered for an exceptional candidate.

Work Mode: Hybrid

Hourly Rate: $31.37/hr

This Research Assistant position will be paid hourly on a biweekly basis. You will have to submit timesheets for approval in MyDay. Your pay rate will be $31.37 according to the SENS-UAW contract.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience using R, Stata, SPSS, or SAS with large economic data sets to conduct data
  • management and descriptive statistics.
  • Experience working with ACS and/or CPS microdata (or similar) to analyze labor force characteristics and earnings.
  • Ability to digest and synthesize concepts, analyses and material from academic journal articles.
  • Reasonable familiarity with econometrics as applied to labor market analysis.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly and to make oral presentations.
