Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant for the Global Education Center supports the International Education Centers mission by assisting with student advising, education abroad program administration, outreach, and promotional activities. Working under the guidance of the Study Abroad Advisor and Education Abroad Team, this position helps students explore and navigate international education opportunities, supports the management of student records and program documentation, assists with marketing and recruitment initiatives, and contributes to educational events and programming. The Graduate Assistant plays a key role in promoting global learning opportunities, delivering excellent student service, and helping create an inclusive, welcoming environment for students interested in studying abroad.
Responsibilities
Student Advising Support - 45%
The graduate assistant contributes to the advising process by assisting students in understanding the range of available education abroad opportunities and directing them to appropriate resources. Under the guidance of the Study Abroad Advisor, the graduate assistant meets with students in individual and small-group settings to discuss program options, basic eligibility requirements, application steps, and general considerations related to finances, travel, and cultural preparation. The graduate assistant guides students through initial stages of the application process and refers more complex academic, financial, or program-specific questions to professional staff. The graduate assistant helps students prepare required materials, supports general pre-departure preparation, and assists the Education Abroad Team in maintaining a welcoming and informative advising environment.
Records-Maintenance and Administrative Support - 25%
The graduate assistant assists with maintaining accurate and up-to-date program information and student records. Responsibilities include supporting data entry and document management in Terra Dotta; tracking application progress; preparing standard communication templates; and helping maintain website and informational materials. The graduate assistant assists the Study Abroad Advisor with processing routine components of course equivalencies, scholarship documentation, and returnee debriefings. The graduate assistant also supports the compilation of enrollment reports, basic data summaries, and documentation needed for ongoing program operations.
Outreach, Events, and Promotion - 20%
The graduate assistant assists in promoting global learning opportunities and increasing student awareness of international programs. Responsibilities include preparing promotional materials, contributing to social media and digital communication, supporting website updates, and assisting in planning large events such as the Opportunities Abroad Fair, International Fest, and other recruitment events. The graduate assistant represents the Education Abroad Team at class visits, tabling sessions, and workshops, and provides accurate and student-friendly information about program opportunities and participation steps.
Other - 10%
The graduate assistant performs additional responsibilities in support of the International Education Centers mission as assigned. These may include participating in training sessions, staff meetings, and committee activities, assisting with response to student inquiries, and supporting occasional evening or weekend programming as needed.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
A bachelors degree is required.
Other Required Qualifications
Approved for regular admission to a graduate degree program at Georgia College & State University. Upload Acceptance into Additional Documents attachment in application.
Maintain academic good standing. If a students grade point average falls below a 3.00 (academic warning), the student will have next semester or summer term to improve and return to good standing before termination of the assistantship. Should a student fail to return to good standing after the next semester or summer term, or should a student receive academic exclusion and be dismissed from the degree program, the assistantship will be terminated at once.
This position will work in person 19 hours per week.
Course loads for graduate assistants must be at least 6 graduate semester hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
A bachelors degree in a relevant field is preferred, including international studies, international relations, history, political science, or education.
Foreign language study or demonstrated intercultural learning.
Preferred Experience
Experience in supporting others through academic planning cultural preparation is also desirable. Participation in a semester- or year-long study abroad program is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience related to advising, consultation, international education, or a comparable field.

The proposed salary is $10/hour.

ABILITIES
Ability to advise students with differing academic backgrounds and goals in a supportive, student-centered manner. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, external partners, and program providers while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment. Ability to take initiative, exercise problem-solving skills, and respond thoughtfully to issues related to student well-being and program conditions.
KNOWLEDGE
Familiarity with higher education or public-interest research environments is helpful but not required.
SKILLS
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly in writing and in person, deliver presentations, and foster a welcoming environment for all advising interactions. Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills, including attention to detail, follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort learning and using digital platforms and databases.
