Grading Operator

We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Grading Operator to join our construction team in Albemarle, NC. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating heavy earth-moving equipment, including dozers and backhoes, with a strong understanding of grading, grade stakes, construction plans, and jobsite safety.

Experience working on highway construction projects is preferred but not required. Candidates with a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
Safely operate heavy construction and earth-moving equipment, including dozers, backhoes, and related machinery.
Perform grading and excavation work according to project plans, specifications, and grade requirements.
Read and interpret construction plans, grade stakes, and related project information.
Use GPS and machine-control technology to achieve accurate grading and elevations when applicable.
Conduct routine equipment inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
Identify and report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.
Perform manual labor and other construction-related duties as directed by the grading foreman or supervisor.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow all company, OSHA, and project-specific safety procedures.
Work collaboratively with crew members, supervisors, customers, and the general public in a professional and respectful manner.
Adapt to changing jobsite conditions and operational requirements.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Minimum 2 years of experience operating earth-moving equipment, such as dozers, backhoes, or similar heavy equipment.
Previous experience in grading and sitework.
Ability to read and understand grade stakes, construction plans, and specifications.
Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation and jobsite safety practices.
Ability to perform manual labor as required.
Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Dependable and reliable work ethic.
Professional and respectful communication with coworkers, customers, and the public.
Reliable transportation to the office or assigned jobsites.
Valid driver's license preferred.
GPS/machine-control experience is a plus.
Highway construction experience is a plus.
