    About the Department:

    The Office of Risk Management (ORM) supports the mission of Southern Methodist University by advancing a culture of readiness, resilience, compliance, and informed risk-taking. ORM provides institution-wide leadership and services across Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Risk Management and Insurance. Through professional expertise, training, risk assessment, compliance support, and cross-campus collaboration, ORM helps safeguard the University's people, assets, operations, and reputation.

    ORM also leads strategic risk and compliance initiatives that strengthen institutional accountability, preparedness, and resilience. Working in partnership with academic and administrative units across the University, the office supports proactive risk identification, effective compliance practices, and informed decision-making in an evolving risk environment. Led by the Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, ORM is a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to supporting a safe, compliant, prepared, and resilient University.

    About the Position:

    This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

    The Global Risk and Compliance Specialist supports the University''s international travel, global engagement, and compliance activities by administering compliance processes, monitoring program requirements, maintaining records and documentation, supporting risk review activities, and assisting with traveler preparedness initiatives.

    The position monitors compliance with institutional requirements, identifies and reports potential compliance concerns, supports training and communication efforts, and assists in implementing corrective actions and process improvements related to global risk and compliance programs.

    Essential Functions:

    • Administer travel registration, documentation, and approval processes for University-sponsored travel. Review submissions for completeness and compliance with institutional requirements and follow up on missing or incomplete information.

    • Monitor compliance with international travel, global engagement, and related program requirements. Maintain records, workflows, databases, and supporting documentation and identify potential compliance issues for review by management.

    • Assist with gathering information, preparing summaries, and compiling documentation for risk reviews associated with international travel, partnerships, and global activities. Monitor country conditions and prepare reports regarding traveler health, safety, security, and compliance concerns.

    • Develop and maintain training materials, guidance documents, communications, and awareness resources related to global risk and compliance. Support administration of pre-departure training and traveler preparedness programs.

    • Assist with tracking corrective actions, monitoring compliance follow-up activities, documenting compliance concerns, and supporting implementation of corrective measures.

    • Support communications, documentation, reporting, and coordination activities associated with incidents affecting University-sponsored travelers and global programs.

    • Assist with coordination of relationships, documentation, and communications involving travel assistance providers, international risk vendors, and University stakeholders.

    • Position requires occasional evening and weekend work to assist with emergency response efforts related to student emergencies abroad, including maintaining 24/7 availability as a member of the emergency response team.

    • Position may require occasional travel to assist with emergency response efforts and required security assessments abroad.

    A Bachelor's is required. A Master''s degree is preferred.

    A minimum of three (3) years of work experience is required. Experience coordinating programs, projects, or complex administrative processes is preferred.

    Associate in Risk Management (ARM) certification is preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. A strong customer service orientation

    Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

    Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and business information systems.

    Physical and Environmental Demands:

    • Bend, Crawl, Squat, Stand, Climb, Kneel

    • Reach above shoulders

    • Sit for long periods of time

    • Handle objects (dexterity)

    • Carry/lift over 25-50 lbs.

    • Walk for long distances
