About the Position

This is a Time-Limited position. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks a GIS Specialist II to serve in the Information Systems Division. The GIS Specialist will serve as a member of MDAHs Information Systems team and will function as the agencys ArcGIS administrator. This role is responsible for managing the HSMT application, serving as the primary point of contact for subscribers and ITS regarding questions, concerns, or technical issues related to the website, and providing technical support to agency staff on GIS-related matters. The position also involves collaborating with vendors on new and existing projects, working closely with the Information Systems team to resolve day-to-day HelpDesk issues related to hardware and software support, and managing user accounts.

What youll need to be Successful

Ability to work with the following programs: Microsoft Active Directory, ArcGIS Desktop or Pro, MsSQL and Microsoft Access databases, and SQL Server. This individual should possess strong customer service skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, detail orientation with solid communication abilities, willingness to work outside the regular work schedule when required, willingness to travel to remote sites within the state, basic understanding of installed systems Microsoft Windows 7, 10, and Microsoft 365, 2013, 2016; end-user IT desktop support experience; desktop hardware setup and support experience (PC, scanner, printer, etc.); ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years of experience in GIS. Agency preferred qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in information science, computer science, or a related field, along with at least one year of directly related professional experience.
