OVERVIEW
Merrick & Company is seeking a GIS student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2027 at our Greenwood Village, Colorado office. Imagine working on rewarding client projects and being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities!
Merrick's summer internship program offers meaningful, hands-on experience for students. Designed as a shorter-term, exploratory experience, internships allow students to apply what they're learning in school while gaining exposure to real projects, professional collaboration, and day-to-day life at an employee-owned company.
The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2027.
WHAT YOU"LL DO
The Merrick Intern Program will provide an undergraduate or graduate student with an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data production, processing, and analysis.
The position requires collaboration with GIS and lidar disciplines; as well as developing and testing methodologies in watershed boundary delineation and hydrologic modeling using methodologies from digital elevation models (DEMs). These workflows are designed to map surface water using varying levels of accurate data while leveraging ESRI's ArcGIS software suite. Workflows include the use of fill grids, flow direction, flow accumulation, geomorphic index (GMI), and other rasters. The intern will also have strong commitment to follow through on projects with short- and long-term schedules and budgets, seeing projects develop from start to finish. Work will be done independently and in team environments as these projects develop. The intern will experience collaboration with individuals that have varying industry backgrounds and knowledge. The intern will possess good written and oral communication skills, an open attitude and ability to solve problems regarding topics that are well developed and topics that are continuing to be understood.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must have graduation date after August 2027 to be eligible
Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, or a similar major
Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of degree program
College courses in ESRI ArcGIS/ArcPro are required
Knowledge and/or courses in GIS including:
Data management
GIS
Cartographic design
Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality
Must have a demonstrable good attendance record
Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with basic operations in ESRI ArcGIS software including:
Creation and editing of feature classes and shapefiles
Attribute edits
Labeling and annotation
Projection and scale
Basic cartographic and data visualization methodologies
Familiarity with ArcDesktop (ArcMap and ArcCatalog) and ArcGIS Pro
Familiarity with ArcGIS Online
Familiarity with open-source QGIS
