About the Opportunity
Our client is looking for a Geospatial Data Scientist / Quality Assurance Engineer to support an exciting cloud-based data project for a federal government customer.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems, testing applications, and making sure technology works the way it should.
You'll work alongside developers, cloud engineers, and government customers to help improve the quality and reliability of geospatial data systems.
You don't need to be an expert in every technology listed below. We're especially interested in candidates with a solid background in software testing, data validation, or GIS who are comfortable learning new tools.
What You'll Do
Test applications, data pipelines, and cloud-based systems to make sure they work correctly.
Review geospatial data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
Create test plans, document issues, and work with developers to resolve them.
Use SQL and API testing tools to validate data and system functionality.
Help coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with government customers.
Work with GIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.
Prepare simple technical documentation, test results, and user guides.
Collaborate with a supportive technical team to improve system performance and usability.
What We're Looking For
Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph (required).
Approximately 3+ years of experience in software testing, quality assurance, data validation, or a related field.
Familiarity with SQL and software testing processes.
Experience with GIS, geospatial data, or data-intensive applications.
Exposure to API testing tools such as Postman or similar technologies.
Familiarity with Jira or other defect-tracking tools.
Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
Experience with AWS cloud services.
Knowledge of Python or test automation.
Experience with ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or PostGIS.
Experience working with government customers.
Familiarity with geospatial data formats such as GeoJSON or Shapefiles.
AWS, Security+, or software testing certifications.
Work Location & Requirements
This position is based in Herndon, VA, with work at a designated government facility as needed. Approximately 70% of the work will take place in a classified environment.
