The substitute hiring process includes three phases:
Submit your online application.
Complete the Davidson County Schools Substitute Teacher Training (if required).
Undergo a background check (initiated after training completion).
Once your background check is complete, hiring paperwork will be released. After completing all required forms-including the health certificate-you must contact Crystal Asbury via email to schedule an interview with Human Resources.
After all steps are completed and your application is finalized, it will be submitted to the Directors of Human Resources for approval. Upon approval, you will receive an email confirming your status as an Approved Substitute, along with instructions for next steps.
Additional Information:
Substitute teachers are considered on-call employees.
Maximum work hours: 29.5 hours per week.
Maximum work schedule: up to 4 days per week.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
A substitute teacher serves as a teacher during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher monitors student behavior, attends to the needs of students, and follows the regularly established routines of the classroom. The substitute teacher receives detailed instruction of the duties and responsibilities of this work from the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher serves under the direct supervision of the principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to accompany students to various locations within a school. Must be able to perform basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, pushing, pulling, speaking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
