    Job Description

    The Utility Employee is a multi-functional operations position responsible for supporting warehouse, route sales, and service operations based on daily business needs. This role is designed to provide operational flexibility and may perform duties associated with Warehouse Worker, Route Sales Representative, and Service Technician classifications. Employees assigned to this position must be adaptable and capable of transitioning between functions throughout the day as customer demands, staffing requirements, service calls, deliveries, installations, inventory needs, and other operational priorities change. The Utility Employee serves as a critical resource in maintaining service continuity, supporting customer satisfaction, ensuring operational efficiency, and assisting the organization in meeting its business objectives. Daily assignments may vary and are determined by management based on business requirements. Duties may change throughout a shift without advance notice.

    Warehouse Functions

    • Receive, inspect, verify, and process incoming products and deliveries.
    • Complete receiving logs, rejection logs, invoices, and inventory documentation.
    • Store, stock, rotate, count, and organize product inventory using FIFO inventory practices.
    • Pick and stage products, equipment, and supplies for route deliveries and customer installations.
    • Load, unload, and transport product using pallet jacks, hand trucks, company vehicles, or other approved equipment.
    • Maintain warehouse organization, sanitation, storage areas, loading docks, coolers, freezers, and inventory locations.
    • Complete inventory counts, temperature logs, equipment inspections, and other required records.
    • Assist with waste removal, recycling, cleaning, and facility upkeep.
    • Maintain compliance with company safety standards, OSHA requirements, and sanitation procedures.

    Route Sales and Customer Service Functions

    • Service assigned customer locations by stocking, merchandising, rotating, and maintaining products.
    • Deliver products safely and accurately to customer locations.
    • Maintain proper inventory levels and product quality at customer sites.
    • Build and maintain positive customer relationships through regular communication and exceptional customer service.
    • Identify customer opportunities, respond to customer concerns, and communicate service needs to management.
    • Assist with account retention and overall route growth initiatives.
    • Perform vehicle inspections, daily preventative maintenance checks, and comply with all DOT and company driving requirements.
    • Complete all daily accounting, inventory, product, and route documentation accurately.
    • Operate company vehicles safely and professionally.

    Service Technician Functions

    • Respond to customer service requests and equipment-related issues.
    • Diagnose and repair vending, coffee, water, and related equipment.
    • Perform equipment installations, removals, preventative maintenance, and refurbishments.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and operational equipment issues.
    • Complete service documentation, asset verification, invoices, and customer records.
    • Maintain parts inventory and service vehicle organization.
    • Perform emergency service calls and other customer support activities.
    • Maintain a professional appearance and positive customer relationships while representing the company.
    • Follow all manufacturer guidelines, company procedures, and safety requirements.

    General Responsibilities

    • Work collaboratively with management, route personnel, service technicians, warehouse employees, and customers.
    • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to perform duties across multiple classifications.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
    • Follow all company policies, procedures, safety standards, and customer requirements.
    • Attend training sessions, meetings, and certification programs as required.
    • Complete additional duties and special assignments as directed by management.
    • Adapt to changing operational priorities and work assignments throughout the day.

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to qualify for company vehicle operation and DOT certification where required.
    • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment repair and installation procedures.
    • Ability to perform warehouse inventory, receiving, stocking, and sanitation functions.
    • Ability to operate warehouse equipment including pallet jacks and other material handling equipment.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to respond effectively to changing business demands and shifting daily assignments.
    • Basic computer and mobile device proficiency.
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

    This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    Physical Requirements

    • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, and walking.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and move product, equipment, and supplies throughout the workday.
    • Ability to work in warehouse, customer site, indoor, outdoor, and varying weather conditions.
    • Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment.

    Position Flexibility Statement

    The Utility Employee classification is intended to provide operational flexibility across multiple business functions. Employees in this role may be assigned Warehouse Worker, Route Sales Representative, and/or Service Technician duties based on business needs. Daily assignments may change with little or no notice, and an employee may perform duties from more than one classification during the same shift. The successful employee must demonstrate the ability to learn and perform the essential functions of all supported classifications while maintaining productivity, safety, customer service, and quality standards.
