Job Summary

We are seeking a general surgeon to join our current team of 2 general surgeons at Queens North Hawaii Community Hospital following the retirement of our third surgeon.This is a rare opportunity as our surgical practice has been stable and without turnover with this being the first time this position has been posted in the last 9 years.We are seeking a collaborative partner to join us in providing broad spectrum surgical care and ongoing patient management in accordance with QNHCH's mission, vision, and values including aloha, respect and excellence while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence, professionalism, and compassionate patient care. 

Primary Responsibilities

• This opportunity consists of a combination of outpatient clinic as well as call for general surgery and trauma for our 35 bed hospital. In addition to general surgery procedures, endoscopy procedures support is needed for our community.We recognize that each surgeon brings unique interests and skills and are open to discuss ways to support the community needs and improving access to care. There are also opportunities to be involved with teaching 3^rd- 5^th year surgical residents that rotate in our hospital system. A flexible half a day a week is dedicated to protected administrative time.

• Other expectations include participation in quality improvement initiatives, medical staff committees, and clinical protocol development.Manage operating room time efficiently and support surgical services workflow.  Collaboration with practice management teams to support accurate coding, billing, and CPT documentation. 

Ideal Candidate

• Our ideal candidate is both patient and community centered, collaborative with partners and works well leading interdisciplinary teams.He or she would have the ability to provide culturally sensitive care and work effectively with diverse populations.  We expect strong clinical judgment with the ability to evaluate complex medical information and develop effective treatment plans along with excellent technical, motor, and hand-eye coordination skills necessary for surgical procedures. 

• Conduct patient evaluations and examinations to assess medical conditions and surgical risk. Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments, including medications, dietary recommendations, and wound care.  

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or ECFMG certification. 

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.  

• Board eligible candidates must obtain certification within the timelines established by QNHCH Medical Staff Bylaws. 

• Current, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawai'i.
