Description

Job Title: General Superintendent Commercial Construction
Location: Belmont, CA (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: $180,000 $225,000 per year + Benefits

Position Summary
The General Superintendent serves as the company's senior field leader, providing direction, support, and oversight of all field operations. This role minimizes organizational risk by ensuring company policies, safety standards, and project execution requirements are consistently followed across all jobsites.

Key Responsibilities
Field Operations

  • Manage day-to-day field construction operations and regularly visit jobsites to provide leadership and oversight.
  • Chair monthly field team meetings.
  • Oversee the Warehouse to ensure labor, material, tools, equipment, and supplies are maintained in safe working condition.
  • Attend and contribute to preconstruction, OAC, project management, and leadership meetings.
  • Participate in job walks and review plans, specifications, and contracts with Superintendents.
  • Review and monitor construction costs, labor budgets, and productivity metrics.
  • Lead field teams and oversee subcontractor performance to support quality, schedule, safety, and productivity.
Leadership
  • Set expectations, delegate responsibilities, empower team members, and promote accountability.
  • Manage, mentor, coach, and develop field personnel (Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Carpenters, Laborers, Warehouse staff, Interns).
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and communication skills when addressing field issues and supporting team alignment.
Business Partnership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, trade partners, clients, consultants, and inspectors.
  • Partner with HR on performance feedback, staffing needs, and recruitment.
  • Partner with the safety team to promote a culture of safety and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with Executive Leadership on overall business objectives.

Qualifications
Required:
  • 10+ years of experience as a Superintendent or in a progressively responsible commercial construction leadership role.
  • Experience with tenant improvements, ground-up, building renovations, life science, and similar commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and commercial construction safety practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop large field teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction practices, project layout, and interpretation of civil, structural, and architectural drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of Building Management Systems (security, fire, mechanical, electrical, data).
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects, including scheduling, Client planning, resource allocation, and production analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and other construction management software.
  • Current OSHA 30 certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, with excellent follow-through.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and resilient in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position is primarily based on active construction jobsites and requires:
  • Extended standing and walking on uneven terrain
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Sitting for extended periods (office/trailer work)
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs
  • Manual dexterity and equipment operation
  • Clear vision and hearing for inspections and hazard identification
  • Frequent driving to project locations
  • Ability to respond quickly to site emergencies
  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, heavy machinery, and varying weather conditions
  • Use of PPE (hard hat, reflective vest, protective eyewear, closed-toed shoes) on jobsites
