Job Title: General Production Worker
Job Description
This role involves performing a variety of basic general labor tasks in a steel shop, with a strong focus on cleaning metal surfaces and painting. The General Production Worker supports daily operations by maintaining clean, safe, and prepared materials and work areas throughout the facility.
Responsibilities
+ Clean metal surfaces thoroughly in preparation for painting and further fabrication.
+ Perform painting tasks on steel components, ensuring surfaces are properly prepared and finished.
+ Remove dried paint from steel using appropriate tools and methods without damaging the material.
+ Clean steel parts of burrs and imperfections produced by fabricators to ensure smooth, safe edges.
+ Sweep and maintain cleanliness of floors and work areas to support a safe and organized shop environment.
+ Assist with general labor duties as assigned around the shop to support production needs.
+ Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working in a steel environment.
+ Coordinate with fabricators and other team members to ensure materials are ready and available for production.
Essential Skills
+ Experience as a general laborer, preferably with at least 1 year in a similar role.
+ Experience working in construction or other dirty, physically demanding environments.
+ Ability to work effectively in a steel shop environment with heavy materials and equipment.
+ Comfort working in non-climate-controlled conditions, including very hot and very cold temperatures.
+ Capability to perform repetitive physical tasks such as sweeping, wiping, and cleaning metal surfaces.
+ Attention to detail when cleaning burrs, removing dried paint, and preparing surfaces.
+ Reliability in working a Friday–Sunday schedule from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
+ Commitment to following safety guidelines and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous experience working around steel fabrication or metalworking operations.
+ Familiarity with basic painting techniques for metal surfaces.
+ Ability to use hand tools safely for cleaning, deburring, and surface preparation.
+ Strong work ethic and willingness to perform a variety of general labor tasks as needed.

Work Environment
This position is based in a steel shop that is not climate controlled, which means it can be extremely hot during the summer and very cold during colder seasons. The schedule runs from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You will work around heavy steel materials, fabrication equipment, and painting areas, and you will be expected to wear appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment suitable for a dirty, physically demanding environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $17.00/hr.
