General Maintenance Worker
Position Summary
The General Maintenance Worker serves under the direct supervision of the Facilities Director to improve and maintain the condition of approximately 1.2 million square feet of academic, science lab, athletic, performing arts spaces, and exterior grounds. This work is critical to supporting the academic mission of the school district.
Qualifications
Essential Functions
Perform miscellaneous repairs on doors, locks, and facility equipment, including installing and maintaining bookshelves, tack boards, whiteboards, hanging pictures, interior signage, ceiling tiles, lens covers, and fixture plates.
Perform painting using brush, roller, and sprayer following proper surface preparation, including patching, priming, and taping.
Clear minor clogged drains and remove standing water using an extraction/wet vacuum system.
Install door and window glass as needed.
Install and repair locker doors, handles, and associated hardware.
Replace floor tile, carpet, and other related flooring products.
Assist with inventory of maintenance supplies and respond to service requests for minor maintenance of equipment and systems.
Coordinate work with the Maintenance Foreman, Facility Manager, or Director of Buildings and Grounds.
Follow preventive maintenance programs for heating and air conditioning units, including changing air filters and belts, lubricating motors and bearings, and making necessary adjustments.
Perform weekly inspections of air compressors and pneumatic systems.
Maintain logs of repairs, maintenance, inspections, and inventory.
Inspect and lubricate vent and exhaust systems, pumps, and related equipment.
Perform minor electrical work as required.
Perform general plumbing work, including unclogging drains, repairing faucets, soldering, and brazing.
Move office furniture, files, and cabinets, and perform other related work required to complete assigned jobs.
Be available to respond to service calls outside normal working hours as needed.
Perform a variety of repair tasks while directly assisting trades personnel, including but not limited to:
Replacing floor tile.
Replacing electrical ballasts and fluorescent tubes.
Painting over graffiti.
Repairing fencing.
Patching asphalt or concrete.
Setting minor forms.
Installing paper towel and toilet paper dispensers.
Patching holes in plaster or wood walls.
Installing movie screens, chalkboards, and tack boards.
Scraping paint.
Cleaning lock keyways.
Performing vandalism repairs.
Performing preventive maintenance on equipment.
Repairing lockers.
Performing sheet metal repairs.
Repairing or replacing ceiling tile and ceramic bathroom tile.
Repairing indoor and outdoor bleachers.
Operate various equipment to perform repairs.
Perform minor inspection duties of completed work or general building conditions under the direction of a supervisor or skilled tradesperson.
Clean worksites, including hauling debris and trash to dumpsters, cleaning tools and equipment, and ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are stored properly.
Maintain prompt, regular, in-person attendance and be available to work on-site during regular business hours and as needed.
Perform all work safely using appropriate safety equipment and properly sized ladders.
Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator or designee.
