Primary
Purpose:
The
Gaining
Early
Awareness
and
Readiness
for
Undergraduate
Programs
(GEAR
UP)
Grant
is
a
seven-year
federal
initiative
designed
to
increase
early
college
awareness,
readiness,
and
success
for
low-income
and
historically
underrepresented
students.
The
Coordinator
is
primarily
responsible
for
the
day-to-day
management
of
the
programs,
including
staff
supervision,
public
relations,
data
management,
formative
and
summative
program
evaluation,
ongoing
participant
services,
and
program
leadership.
The
Coordinator
recruits
and
supervises
staff
and
provides
leadership
for
student
programming.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's
Degree
Required
Master's
Degree
in
Education
or
Related
Field
(preferred)
Special
Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge
and
understanding
of
college
transition
and
college
readiness
resources,
research,
work,
and
standards
Ability
to
manage
budget
and
personnel
Strong
organizational,
communication,
public
relations,
and
interpersonal
skills
Working
with
individual
students
and
families
(especially
those
from
multicultural,
low-income,
or
special
needs
backgrounds);
Experience
working
with
individuals
in
the
community
service
field,
integrating
community
resources
into
the
curriculum,
networking
with
colleges,
schools,
and
agencies,
and
supervising
full-time
staff
and
implementing
academic
programs
in
schools
is
preferred.
Experience:
Successful
experience
working
with
students
and
families
in
secondary
school
settings.
Successful
experience
working
in
college,
career,
and
military
readiness-specific
roles
preferred.
Prior
experience
with
grant
management
and
implementation
is
preferred.
Major
Responsibilities
and
Duties:
Program
Management
Monitors
grant
timeline(s)
and
defined
standards;
advises
and
adjusts
as
needed;
and
monitors
and
tracks
program
design
against
actual
program
implementation.
Coordinates
the
grant
activities
for
participating
campuses
through
staff
meetings,
site
visits,
and
other
contacts
and
correspondence.
Meets
regularly
with
staff
from
all
GEAR
UP
locations
to
ensure
timelines
are
met
and
service
delivery
is
meeting
defined
standards.
Collaborates
with
the
campus
and
district
to
implement
programs
and
conduct
activities
in
line
with
campus/district
goals.
Coordinates
and
oversees
program
budgets
in
cooperation
with
site
principals
and
GEAR
UP
staff
Conducts
semi-annual
and
annual
performance
evaluations
of
professional
staff
in
collaboration
with
the
program
director
Recruits,
hires,
trains,
and
supervises
staff
Program
Evaluation
and
Reporting
Schedules,
collects,
and
reports
required
program
data
for
local
and
federal
program
evaluations.
Organizes
and
prepares
federal
reports
and
other
communication
and
correspondence
by
defined
timeline(s)
as
required
by
the
United
States
Department
of
Education
and
the
grant
funding
source.
Teaching
&
Learning
Provide
job-embedded
professional
development
for
teachers
through
modeling
engaging,
college-readiness
teaching
as
needed.
Provide
individual
and/or
group
instructional
coaching
and
mentoring
to
teachers
to
improve
classroom
instruction
for
all
learners.
Work
with
teachers
and
campus
administration
to
analyze
student
data,
diagnose
instructional
needs,
and
identify
research-based
instructional
strategies
to
help
students
achieve
college-
and
career-readiness.
Service
Delivery
Provide
training
for
advisors
in
areas
such
as
postsecondary
preparation,
financial
aid
and
college
selection,
and
academic
preparation.
Design,
coordinate,
and
implement
student
service
delivery
to
participants
Coordinate
programming
in
areas
such
as
AVID,
financial
aid,
career
exploration,
motivation,
and
self-awareness
through
workshops,
individual
counseling,
and
classroom
presentations
Provide
guidance
on
liability
issues
and
program
development
Supervise
the
implementation
of
experiential/educational
activities
for
students
and
parents
while
ensuring
safety
and
experiential/educational
quality

locally
and
nationally
