Description

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is looking for a Shaper Operator to join the team of a manufacturing client located in Carson City, NV.

 

  • In this role, you'll be joining a small, family-owned precision machine shop in Carson City as a reliable Gear Hobber / Shaper Operator. This is a hands-on position running Barber-Colman gear hobbing equipment (and related gear cutting machines) to produce quality gears and precision components.

  • We need someone who already knows how to set up and run the work correctly!

  • Pay rate $28-$37/HR

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Barber-Colman gear hobbers and related gear shaping / cutting equipment

  • Load parts correctly, verify orientation, and perform first-piece inspections

  • Read blueprints, process sheets, and gear data (DP, pressure angle, tooth count, helix, etc.)

  • Select and mount proper hobs, cutters, and fixtures

  • Maintain tight tolerances and surface finish requirements

  • Perform basic machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized

  • Identify and stop work immediately if something looks wrong (wrong load, wrong cutter, bad setup, etc.)

  • Work safely and follow shop standards at all times

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating gear hobbing and/or gear shaping equipment (Barber-Colman experience strongly preferred)

  • Ability to correctly load and orient parts — mistakes that crash machines are not acceptable

  • Solid understanding of gear geometry and cutting principles

  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret gear data

  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

  • Able to work in a small crew environment with high expectations

Preferred

  • Experience with both conventional and CNC gear equipment

  • Background in precision machining (mills, lathes, inspection)

  • Self-starter who takes ownership of quality and equipment
