Job Title: Gas System Project ManagerJob Description

This role focuses on leading intermediate pressure gas distribution system capital projects that enhance gas system integrity and reliability. The Gas System Project Manager oversees the full project lifecycle—from initiation through execution—ensuring that scope, cost, schedule, and quality objectives are consistently met. The position involves managing projects of moderate risk and financial impact, coordinating with multiple agencies and private partners, and driving improvements across a range of gas system infrastructure initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the full lifecycle of gas distribution system capital projects, from initial concept and initiation through planning, execution, and completion.
  • Lead projects designed to improve gas system integrity and reliability, including older vintage polyethylene pipe replacement, older wrapped steel pipe replacement, shallow main pipe replacement, gas main reinforcements, and cathodic protection improvements.
  • Oversee distribution integrity management projects and ensure that all work aligns with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including milestones, timelines, and resource allocation, to ensure successful delivery of scope, cost, schedule, and quality targets.
  • Drive effective communication across cross-functional project teams, stakeholders, agencies, and private partners to secure alignment and support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to define project methods, deliverables, and execution strategies, providing clear direction and guidance.
  • Prepare and refine statements of work (SOW), bid documents, and cost estimates to support procurement, contracting, and budgeting activities.
  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and implement change management processes to address issues and maintain project performance.
  • Coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders to resolve conflicts, negotiate solutions, and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Apply strong leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to drive decisions, remove obstacles, and achieve project objectives.
Essential Skills
  • 6–8+ years of project management experience, with demonstrated responsibility for managing complex infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing the full project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, and closeout, while overseeing scope, cost, schedule, quality targets, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Direct experience in natural gas system utility infrastructure project management.
  • Hands-on experience with older vintage polyethylene pipe replacement, older wrapped steel pipe replacement, shallow main pipe replacement, gas main reinforcement, cathodic protection improvements, and distribution integrity management projects.
  • Proficiency in developing statements of work (SOW), preparing bid documents, and creating detailed cost estimates.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and project information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in guiding cross-functional teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Effective negotiation skills to align stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and secure necessary resources.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement practical solutions in a dynamic project environment.
  • Solid understanding of utility construction and gas system infrastructure practices.

  • Experience in utility infrastructure and utility construction environments.
  • Background in managing capital projects with moderate risk and financial impact.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple agencies, private partners, and stakeholders on complex infrastructure initiatives.
  • Familiarity with project management best practices and methodologies used in the energy and utilities sector.
Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid work environment based in Kent, WA, combining remote work with on-site collaboration as needed to support project activities. The role involves regular interaction with cross-functional teams, external agencies, and partners within a professional utility and construction setting. Work hours follow a standard full-time schedule, with the added benefit of a 24-month contract term that includes 5 days of paid time off and 12 days of holiday pay aligned with major observed holidays. The environment emphasizes safety, reliability, and teamwork, providing opportunities to contribute to critical energy infrastructure projects while maintaining a balanced and flexible work arrangement.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
