Program Overview:
The Desert Oasis Teaching Garden at Albuquerque Academy is an experiential garden demonstrating soil health, water conservation, and climate adaptability in the desert Southwest using regenerative agricultural practices. We provide experiential learning opportunities for students at Albuquerque Academy as well as produce for the dining halls and community donations.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist with general maintenance of the garden, outlying landscaped spaces, tools and supplies
Perform some office functions as necessary
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with maintenance of garden and landscaped spaces (includes weeding, planting, harvesting, use of power tools)
Clean and maintain tools and supplies
Set up and clean up for classroom teaching and other events
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION
High School diploma
B. EXPERIENCE
Experience working in a garden or farm preferred
Experience working outdoors and in various weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, precipitation, etc.)
C. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal & problem-solving skills
Able to lift at least 50 pounds
Ability to work independently and successfully complete tasks in a timely manner without direct supervision
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Predominantly outdoors on a small regenerative agriculture farm
Exposure to sun, elements, and insects throughout all seasons
Some indoor work in shared office space
