Position Information

Job Title GA for the Maverick Food Pantry - DASH - Graduate Assistant Only Department DASH Essential Functions

Working with the Manager of the Maverick Food Pantry, this position will support essential functions for UNO's new Oh SNAP! program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • 1-on-1 assistance with SNAP applications and recertifications
  • Coordinate and implement open office hours and workshops
  • Collect and maintain up-to-date and accurate data
  • Assist in the development of metrics that matter
  • Create and coordinate engaging and educational activities (tabling events, challenges, presentations, etc)
  • Develop and distribute materials (fliers, social media posts, etc)
  • Research, suggest, and execute best practices and policies
  • Review program and design reports on success of program

Work Schedule 20 hours per week Additional Duties

Project Management: 10%

  • updating spreadsheets
  • reporting success rates
  • developing materials

Outreach: 45%

  • distributing SNAP information on campus: fliers, social media campaigns, tabling events
  • keeping SNAP information up-to-date and accurate
  • develop engagement activities including presentations to campus partners to educate faculty, staff, and student group (The goal is to educate while destigmatizing and demystifying public benefits, like SNAP)

Application Assistance: 45%

  • assisting students 1-on-1 with applications or recertifications
  • coordinating and leading workshops and open office hours (he goal is to prescreen students before applying to manage student expectations and ensure our success rate is 70% or higher.)

Required Qualifications

  • Admitted to UNO graduate program and/or enrolled in good academic standing
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Must be reliable, professional, detail-oriented, proactive, and willing to learn
  • Ability to apply critical and creative thinking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant field/working on degree in relevant field

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology and Anthropology, Counseling, Psychology, Public Administration

  • Experience in data collection and/or data analysis

  • Experience with 1-on-1 assistance or case management

  • Skill in public speaking and presenting information to large groups

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
