Summary Description:

Under the supervision of the principal and with the direction of the Lead Reading Recovery Teacher, teachers and teachers-in-training, in this class, provide daily, intensive, individualized instruction to struggling first graders in compliance with the Standards and Guidelines of Reading Recovery in the United States; communicates regularly with MCPS staff and parents. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, MCPS policies, and effective instructional practices. Ability to learn new ways of observing, analyzing, and teaching children to read and write using Reading Recovery teaching procedures, systematic assessment of reading behaviors, and record evidence of progress. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills

Education Training Experience:

Bachelor^s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. At least 3 years successful teaching experience with primary-age children, extensive background in teaching reading preferred.Certificate License:Meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
