Job Description Summary

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: APPLICANTS MUST be currently enrolled at ULV and have a FEDERAL WORK STUDY award to be eligible for this position. *

The Mentor Assistant position will support program staff with management of youth mentoring program. Responsibilities include data entry of mentoring attendance, collaborating with program staff to recruit mentors, overseeing community partner activity sessions with youth, creating engaging activities for mentee engagement, mentors, overseeing community partner activity sessions with youth, creating engaging activities for mentee engagement, with community outreach and family engagement.

The starting pay for this position is $23.00 per hour.

Specific Duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruit & Screen Mentors

Assist with recruitment, screening, and onboarding of virtual mentors.

Host info sessions, recruitment events, and group interviews.

Guide applicants through the virtual application and screening process.

Mentor Program Support

Support mentor-mentee matching and session facilitation.

Track mentor engagement and maintain session attendance records.

Provide ongoing match support and communicate concerns to the Center Director.

Outreach & Engagement

Implement recruitment strategies using social media and networking tools.

Promote mentoring opportunities and represent the program at events.

Data Management & Reporting

Maintain accurate documentation of mentor activity and recruitment efforts.

Contribute to quarterly reports on program progress.

Technology & Platform Use

Use Zoom, Google Meet, and other platforms to facilitate virtual mentoring.

Manage digital tools for recruitment, communication, and data tracking.

Professional Development & Teamwork

Participate in staff training and ongoing development.

Collaborate with team members to meet program goals.

Communication & Public Speaking

Effectively communicate with diverse audiences.

Present orientation materials and program information confidently

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current University of La Verne student with Federal Work Study eligibility for the 2026-2027 academic year.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a highly interactive environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Takes initiative and a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.

University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.

In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.

Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
