Purpose of Position:

Students on the McCall Center for Civic Engagement team focus on professional and personal development, preparing themselves for lives as active citizens in

their professions and in their communities. Students who work in our center develop the characteristics that create exemplary citizens, such as:

Community Partner Liaisons mentor with more experienced students during the onboarding and work closely with the staff of the McCall Center to build

professional skills as you grow into the role. You will gain experience with volunteer recruitment, program coordination, marketing, communications, teamwork, delegation, written and verbal communication techniques, public speaking, organizational and administrative skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Community Partner Liaison works as part of the McCall Center for Civic Engagement (MCCE) Civic Action Team, focusing on support for and

communication with community partners in civic engagement. You will act as a liaison between community organizations and the MCCE

through a wide range of activities from event planning to data/records management and marketing/outreach. Responsibilities may include:

  • Planning and coordinating events with community partners, including conducting outreach and serving on planning work groups.
  • Creating and maintaining content for MCCE communications, such as the web site, newsletter, Instagram, and the Civic Engagement Opportunity Blog.
  • Writing short articles and posts, creating flyers, and editing documents to assist community partners in connecting with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Following and promoting upcoming community events and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Assisting other Civic Action Team Specialists and MCCE staff with programs and activities, and performing general office duties in the Center, such as making copies, posting flyers, greeting visitors, and other projects as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required:

  • Interest in civic engagement (e.g. service, advocacy, raising awareness, political involvement in elections/campaigns, activism, community-based research)
  • Interest in working with diverse student groups and community partners, including those with personal identities or political perspectives different from your own.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to listen well and build rapport with new people.
  • Good time management skills with an inclination to take initiative and follow through on projects and professional commitments.
  • Experience or interest in using a wide range of communications platforms (email, blog, social media) and software (Canva, Google Docs, MS Office).
  • Ability to work as a team member and take direction from others.
  • Ability to act as a representative of the Center and university with self-awareness and diplomacy.

Desired:

  • Demonstrated commitment to Civic Engagement through past volunteering, coursework, student government, or other activities
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the promotion of civic engagement through campus-wide educational activities.
