POSITION SUMMARY
POSITION SUMMARY:
An employee in this position for Transportation provides transportation services to a variety of Harnett County citizens including the elderly, transportation deprived, and emotionally/mentally/physically disabled persons of all ages. This includes driving a van, car, or bus on an assigned route schedule that may vary on a daily basis; providing transportation services (either on demand or via subscription) to customer base to and from school, work, medical appointments, nutrition centers, grocery/drug stores, and various County programs and services; assisting passengers; collecting funds for services; writing receipts; maintaining records (including electronic records); and maintaining vehicles.
Hiring Salary: $33,284.00
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Inspects vehicle prior to driving.
Drives and operates vehicles on assigned schedule and route that may vary on a daily basis to transport passengers to and from destinations.
Uses discretion to determine order of passenger pick-up and delivery.
Monitors and reports status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
Maintains first aid supplies and operates fire suppression equipment on the vehicles.
Records mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms or electronic device.
Collects and keeps account of fares; prepares receipts for monies collected.
Assists passengers with seat belts, assists with getting in and out of vehicles as needed; and operates wheelchair lifts.
Ensures the vehicle is clean and free of litter.
Fuels vehicle used.
Ensures that passengers arrive at destinations on time.
Checks passengers returning from medical appointments for any signs of bleeding.
Re-inspects vehicle after use; notes and reports any issues/concerns.
Works a flexible and irregular schedule; assists on a variety of established routes that may vary on a daily basis; and is subject to emergency call-backs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform light work frequently exerting up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, climbing, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, kneeling, using mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, shouting to be heard above ambient noise, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to operate vehicles safety, do visual vehicle inspections, operate wheel chair lifts, and maintain records.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, fumes, and gases. Duties may expose the employee to human body fluids, thus the work is subject to OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens. Requires working a flexible and sometimes irregular schedule. Work may require emergency call-backs.
