About Matron of Familyhood

Matron of Familyhood is a boutique placement agency focused on continuity of care and long-term professional matches. Many families connect with us in pregnancy or early postpartum and later transition into long-term nanny support as their needs evolve. We prioritize thoughtful introductions, professional standards, and stable placements within private homes.

Our network is intentionally curated to ensure quality, discretion, and strong alignment between families and caregivers. Nannies introduced through Matron of Familyhood are employed directly by the hiring family as W-2 household employees. Matron of Familyhood does not serve as the employer of record.

Our Professional Standards

At Matron of Familyhood, we view nannying as a career with professional standards, not casual childcare. Families in our network seek caregivers who demonstrate professionalism, maturity, developmental awareness, and strong relationship skills.

We strongly encourage and support employment practices that reflect the professional nature of career nannying, including:

  • Guaranteed hours and predictable scheduling
  • Written employment agreements that outline roles, duties, and expectations
  • Legal payroll practices, including W-2 household employment
  • Professional boundaries and clear communication.

These standards help promote long-term stability, mutual respect, and sustainable working relationships for both families and caregivers.

Our Screening & Placement Process

We use a structured, multi-step screening process designed to support thoughtful, long-term placements.

The process may include:

  • Application review
  • Introductory phone conversation
  • Structured interview
  • Professional reference checks
  • Background screening conducted with candidate consent and in accordance with applicable law
  • Discussion of schedule, responsibilities, and role scope
  • Interviews directly with families, held virtually or in the family's home, depending on family preference

Our screening process is designed to ensure clarity, professionalism, and mutual alignment throughout the placement process.

Final hiring decisions are made exclusively by the hiring family.

Our Approach to Continuity

Children thrive in environments where care is safe, stable, and developmentally aligned. Consistent, emotionally responsive caregiving supports executive functioning and healthy nervous system regulation, which directly influences long-term developmental outcomes.

We prioritize long-term placements whenever possible. The families in our network are intentional and invested in fostering structured, supportive home environments.

Families in our network typically value:

  • Clear, timely, and respectful communication
  • Developmentally appropriate engagement
  • Professional boundaries within private homes
  • Reliability and consistency
  •  Stable, long-term working relationships
  • Thoughtful structure and predictable routines
  •  Mutual respect between caregiver and employer

Who This Role Tends to Fit

This opportunity is often a strong fit for professionals who:

  • Have experience supporting children in structured, in-home or educational settings
  • View nannying as a professional, long-term career path
  • Communicate clearly and collaboratively with parents
  • Understand child development and value age-appropriate engagement
  • Maintain discretion, reliability, and appropriate professional boundaries
  • Thrive in private home environments that require initiative, situational awareness, and respectful presence

Professionals who tend to thrive in our network value long-term partnership over short-term placements, appreciate structured employment agreements, and seek consistency in hours and expectations. They understand that stability and clarity support both strong family relationships and sustainable careers.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of paid, professional in-home childcare experience (extended babysitting or sibling care alone does not qualify)
  •  Demonstrated experience caring for infants and toddlers
  • Strong, verifiable references from prior families or agencies
  • Current Pediatric and Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certification through a nationally recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association). Certification must include an in-person skills assessment; fully online certifications are not accepted.

Work Authorization

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment eligibility verification is completed by the hiring family in accordance with federal law.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following experience is highly valued:

  • Five or more years of professional nanny experience
  •  Experience in high-demand or executive households
  • Background in early childhood education or child development
  • Comfort managing structured routines and developmental planning
  • Experience navigating newborn-to-toddler transitions
  • Familiarity with tracking sleep, feeding, and developmental milestones
  • Experience working alongside other household staff
  • Interest in ongoing professional development

Employment Structure

Nannies are employed directly by the hiring family as W-2 household employees.

The family is responsible for payroll, tax withholding, workers' compensation (if applicable), employment agreements, supervision, and benefits.

Compensation, guaranteed hours, and other employment terms are negotiated directly between the nanny and the family.

Matron of Familyhood coordinates introductions but does not supervise, employ, or manage nannies after placement.

Trial Period

Many families choose to begin with a mutually agreed trial period to ensure the relationship feels aligned on both sides.

Any trial terms are negotiated directly between the nanny and the family. We remain available to support communication if requested, but we do not oversee performance.

Ongoing Support

Although we are not the employer, we remain available to help facilitate communication if questions arise after placement. Our goal is to support stable, professional, long-term relationships.

Next Step

Submitting an application does not guarantee placement. We reach out directly when a candidate's background aligns with a current or upcoming family need.

Matron of Familyhood considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other status protected by applicable law.
