Medical Laboratory Technician Job Responsibilities
Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, coagulation, and immunology
Collect, receive, prepare, and process patient specimens according to laboratory procedures
Analyze laboratory samples and accurately document test results
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment
Perform quality control procedures and troubleshoot testing or equipment issues as needed
Follow established laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards
Maintain accurate patient records and laboratory documentation
Communicate critical or abnormal results to appropriate clinical personnel
Work closely with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team
Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards
Assist with inventory management and laboratory supplies as needed
Education & Certification Requirements
Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory science field
MLT certification through ASCP, AMT, or another nationally recognized certifying organization preferred
Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred
Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, quality control, and specimen handling
Ability to accurately operate laboratory equipment and interpret test results
Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative laboratory team
