About this role
Better Health for All
The County of Santa Clara Health System (CSCHS), a large public teaching healthcare system, affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, is seeking a full-time BE/BC general psychiatrist with fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry to join the Department of Psychiatry to support our new Behavioral Health Pavilion.
We offer the unparalleled opportunity to gain the long-term personal and professional satisfaction of serving our patients and our diverse community, while participating in the education of the next generation of health care providers, in one of the best places to live in the United States.
About Our Organization
CSCHS is the second-largest County-owned health system in California and is committed to improving the health of the 1.9 million people of Santa Clara County. SCVH is comprised of four hospitals: Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC - a 731-bed central hospital), O'Connor Hospital (OCH - 358 licensed beds), Saint Louise Regional Hospital (SLRH - 93 licensed beds) and Regional Medical Center (RMC - 258 licensed beds). In addition, SCVH includes a network of primary care clinics comprised of eleven health centers throughout the County, several urgent care clinics, dental services, primary care behavioral health services, and a broad range of specialty services in our Valley Specialty Center.
SCVMC hosts four residency programs and one fellowship training program, and partners with Stanford University SOM and Stanford Healthcare for the clinical training of medical students, residents, and fellows. SCVMC is an ACS-verified Level 1 Trauma Center, a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, an ABA-verified Burn Center, a Primary Stroke Center, a Level 4 NICU, and a nationally recognized CARF-accredited Rehabilitation Center. Owing to its geographic location and specialty offerings, SCVMC not only serves the County, but also the larger region.
Providers in our health system also have the opportunity to use our integrated electronic health record (Epic), which brings together systemwide patient information. The Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) recognized SCVMC for achieving its highest level of success (Stage 7), based on our continuous innovation and optimization of our inpatient and outpatient EHR.
About the Community
CSCHS is located in San Jose, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley, offering a diverse choice of cultural, recreational, and lifestyle opportunities. Our physicians live in a range of communities, including urban (e.g., San Francisco), university (e.g., Palo Alto), high tech (e.g., many cities of Silicon Valley), mountain (e.g., Los Gatos), beach (e.g. Santa Cruz), and rural/agricultural (e.g., Morgan Hill and Gilroy). Situated in one of the most desirable regions of the country - only 45 minutes from the Monterey Bay and three hours from the Sierra Nevada - our physicians have the opportunity to enjoy a very high quality of life
About the Department of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry is staffed with 90 employed psychiatrists, several contracted psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced practice providers, and licensed clinical social workers who provide prevention, education, and treatment to all residents of Santa Clara County, regardless of ability to pay.
The Department of Psychiatry staffs a 24/7 psychiatric emergency room (EPS), a seven-day per week mental health urgent care clinic, where walk-in crisis intervention is available, two inpatient units at the hospital, adult and juvenile custody clinics, and several adult and child/adolescent mental health and substance treatment clinics at various geographically convenient locations in the county. Our Division of Consultation and Liaison (C&L) psychiatry provides inpatient psychiatric consults services to internal medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, peds, trauma, rehab, and the ED. We are a collegial work environment integrating acute psychiatric care with acute medical issues and work closely with multiple specialties. We have ancillary support and an integrated electronic health record (EPIC). There will be teaching to other trainees from other specialties.
Our staff are ethnically diverse, and provide trauma informed, culturally appropriate services in many languages, reflective of the diversity of the population in Santa Clara County.
About the Position
This position requires board certification/board eligibility with plans to take the board in general psychiatry and/or child and adolescent psychiatry during the hiring year. The candidate will join our team to support our new Behavioral Health Pavilion, providing emergency and inpatient services. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and proficiency in child and adolescent psychiatric care to a diverse patient population, in a culturally sensitive way. The candidate may also be expected to provide psychiatric services to adults in acute psychiatric settings.
About Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive compensation; a generous comprehensive benefit package (including 36 days of leave per year; 13 holidays; 5 CME days; comprehensive, medical, dental, and vision coverage; long term disability insurance; AD&D insurance; life insurance; and retirement plans); paid malpractice (with tail coverage); and possible relocation reimbursement (pre-approval required).
