Position: Full-Time Campus Safety Officer
Reports to: Director of Campus Safety
Responsibilities:
Monitor and maintain safety and security on campus, including buildings, grounds, and entry points
Respond promptly and professionally to emergencies, incidents, and safety concerns
Actively patrol the campus while on duty
Assist in emergency preparedness and response, including drills for fire, lockdown (ALICE), and severe weather
Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed
Foster positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents while maintaining professional authority
Identify and report potential hazards or safety risks to administration
Maintain documentation and reports of incidents in a timely and accurate manner
Support faculty and staff in safety-related training and initiatives
Participate in school events to provide safety oversight as assigned
Educational:
Maintains current knowledge of school safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices
Work with Facilities Manager to ensure campus safety systems such as alarms, surveillance, and access controls are monitored and functional
Models professionalism at all times, reflecting the mission and values of the Academy
Provides guidance and oversight to students consistent with school safety and behavior policies
Supports staff in enforcing rules to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment
Keeps administration informed of safety concerns, incidents, or potential risks
Assists with planning and coordinating safety programs and initiatives as directed
Administrative:
Completes and submits accurate incident and safety reports promptly
Responds to safety-related communications from faculty, staff, parents, or administration within 24 hours
Professional:
Participates in recommended training programs, seminars, courses, and other professional development opportunities related to safety and emergency response
Maintains required certifications such as First Aid, CPR, and AED
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Three or more years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, military, or related field preferred
Prior experience working with children and adolescents preferred
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in emergencies
Hours:
Full-time Day Shift, with occasional requests to stay later due to special events. This position is limited to the academic year.
Compensation range: $24-$25 per hour depending on experience
